I saw someone had made a ski rack attached to the LTrack. I thought it was a good idea, and went waaay overboard.

I used 2020 extruded aluminum to build the rack, with 3D printed end caps I designed to hold ball bungees.

Parts:
Pivot Joints - https://a.co/d/dygbShg
Misc joints - https://a.co/d/gFacDar
2020 extruded aluminum - https://a.co/d/2fn08yp
$2 worth of 3d printed parts, and some 1” foam weather stripping.

Duuuuuuude! Awesome build! How can I get one? I usually carry my gear (skis and snowboards with boots) in ski and snowboard bags. But I find the melted snow turns exposed edges rusty and I’m looking for new ideas to keep them together without trapping moisture. This is brilliant. Kudos to your engineering prowess and creative solution. Would appreciate some insight on cost and time spent. Thanks!

I think it was less than $150 total, I ended up spending more due to trial and error, and buying to much 2020 aluminum, but that stuff is awesome, like legos for adults. Will probably build some more cool stuff with the left overs.
I updated my post with a parts list.

Thank you. We’re all kids with Legos at heart.

That’s absolutely incredible! I’d steal/borrow/pay for that design in a heartbeat, but my skis are too damn long so I’d have to lay them diagonal. May look into doing this for the family though and get rid of the racks. Thank you!! πŸ™

Would they fit diagonally top to bottom(along the side), or they have to fit across the corner to corner of the bed? You could probably modify the rack to angle just enough to stick out he back of the bed, leaving the tonneau cover slightly open. It would be less drag, and keep your skis cleaner that your current situation. I ruined a pair of bindings when I had my roof rack on my BMW.

Hmm… that’s not a bad idea and would probably fit. I’ll look into it this week so thank you. Generally, if we go somewhere over an hour or so, we’ll throw them in ski bags but generally all they do is collect ice and snow. Haha. How did you ruin your bindings? That a terrible.

My bindings were white, with leather straps. The nasty road splatter stained them.

Oh wow. Those must have been vintage! I would have been upset as well! Thanks again for the idea as definitely going to think about it. πŸ‘

I think I’m learning a hard lesson here. I thought I was protecting my equipment with ski bags and boot bags, but apparently it has led to moisture build up and rust. Most likely it’s better to just throw them in the back (like I used to) than keep them insulated in a bag. @Gaximus solution is the best of both worlds. No shifting or potential for scratches with the brackets, but no hermetic seal for moisture accumulation like with the bags. Definitely appreciate the ingenuity and approach. And having the vault seal off potential scuffs (sorry about the white bindings) is a definite plus

Sweet work! Love how these fold up. Mine were a little simpler with thumb screws for easy removal and storage in the underseat bins inside. Cheers to snow related organization innovation!

Your post was the original post that gave me inspiration to make my rack, thank you.

Sorry to hear about the rust but it should be pretty easy to clean off. You can either ski a few runs and see if that works, otherwise there are a few simple tools that would take minutes to use. Boot bags and ski bags are fine but you have to make sure everything drys when you get home. If you leave the skis outside for an hour, that’s usually more than enough time and all you have to do is wipe the top sheets and edges down, before putting them back in the bag. Same goes with boot bags. Sorry that happened and hopefully you can salvage them.
