HI, all,

Just joining this group (though I've had my CT reservation in since January, 2020), and thought I'd pass on an interview I did with Lance King and Bill French, two of the creators of the Cyberlandr. I hope this proves interesting to you all, and helps dispel a couple of bits of misinformation that's been floating around the internet since the announcement.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

i'd need to see a factory, too.

Not that we don't have these down here in Silicon Valley. Tepui started up down the street from where I first lived in Soquel. So... It just takes a bit of elbow grease, so to speak.

Very Interesting! I would have to see 1 before buying!!
i'd need to see a factory, too.
I need to see a finished factory for CT first, then a finished truck in my driveway before I am ready to watch a youtube review of an actual owner of the camper using it so I can consider it. All that said there is a lot I like about the smart design but not enough to pay that much for it.

Thanks for sharing the interview @DrKnowItAll

It's clear they don't have a factory or office... or they would note it on their webpage. The address on Facebook for them is an apartment. Funding?? Reputation of these guys? No Trevor Milton of Nicola, here, right? I love the general design... and hope that it's for real.

I think it's wrong to pan this camper design before it is even out of the gate. That being said, we all need to see the finalized Cybertruck design before we can be absolutely certain if the Cyberlandr is even going to work with it as intended. There are too many unknowns and variables. Regardless, I'm very excited about the Cyberlandr and will definitely get one if all goes according to plan.

Funny, I remember a lot of people saying that about a fledgling car company a few years ago. :)

I finished watching the interview and I was a bit disappointed in the view that we should just leave the CyberLandr in the bed. I have only owned one pickup in my life and I had a shell on it. I could get it on and off myself but it was such a pain that, after a while, I never took it off. After that I started buying SUVs. I want a pickup truck because I need a bed that I can put things in. I need that bed 95% of the time and I need a camper 5% of the time. I would consider buying a camper if it pretty much can take itself off the CyberTruck and put itself back again, and I am quite certain that I would ignore one that assumes I will buy a pickup truck and leave the camper on full time. This from a guy that likes the CyberLandr design and has plunked down what I can only assume is a non-refundable deposit. I want these guys to succeed, but it has to be removable, and not with a furniture dolly! Come on!

There are quite a few trucks out here that always have their little surfer house on them.

So while that might not work for you, plenty of people use them like that.

That is fine, @Crissa, I was only talking about my own self interests vis-a-vis a camper and a pickup.

Yeah, I wouldn't want something always in, either. I take the bike rack off my car whenever I'm not using it. And it doesn't cost me any cargo space!

I was just explaining that they do get used here like that, tho. It's weird seeing people haul these things to the grocery, but whatever ^-^

I have a nice Thule rack for my ebikes, and a Thule CargoSpace (and a Thule trailer), and they are almost always off the car. I use the trailer quite a bit but it is very small and kind of scary to drive around with empty. I am really looking forward to being able to throw things in the back of the CT and the only way I could have a camper on full time would be if I could retain cargo space. Use the back seat? What are they sniffing anyway? The whole idea of having a bed is to keep the back seat a back seat!

Hopefully they'll listen to you and come up with something elegant to solve the problem :)
