Those are good questions. By the way, the machines to make the drive units aren’t supposed to arrive until next year so they would have to get test units from elsewhere before then.
That quote was... not what they said. Next year is the ramp, not the start. They didn't say the start.

That's great but...whyyyyyy

It's not like there's a paint shop they need to test lol
They could do trial production/ general assembly with these. Roll them down the belts to dial in that end of production ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
None of know why, or if that’s what these are. But, they’re stamped by Tesla so, it’s Tesla made, processof elimination; those are CT bodz

They ‘look’ like CT bodies and this is exactly the kind of thing we live for. When I get home I’ll see if Joe has hi-def images of them for closer scrutiny.

From our own forum, which you and I both commented on, the machines are to begin producing drive units next summer:

“the machines are being built and are scheduled to produce the first parts at Giga Texas in July 2023”

https://www.cybertruckownersclub.co...ment-to-produce-cybertruck’s-drive-unit.5349/

they don’t say when the machines will be delivered, true, but if we use our standard 2-month lead from delivery to initial production, which we use for Giga presses and may be much more than needed for these, then the guess that they might not arrive until next year is valid.

Also entirely possible they use motors from other cars, but this equipment being made is to be strictly for the truck, so they’ll just take drive units from the X or whatever maybe has the same motors

Yes, that's how they tuned assembly robots for Model Y and Model 3 as they built new factories. They sent unfinished cars to the new factories.

There's no proof these are Cybertrucks, though, we're just guessing.

9K ton is IN USA now!

-Model Y presses weigh roughly 100k LBS for reference. This press weight 175k LBS roughly.

"What about that video that came out last night?" - I'd assume Tesla has some say so on the press surrounding their press they worked together on.

TEXAS DCM means Texas Die Cast Mold. This is appearing to be THE 9K press.

Ship departed 8.31 in Italy, porting a few places along the way and finally landing in Houston on 9.28! see the log here: https://www.myshiptracking.com/vessels/altamira-express-mmsi-477547100-imo-9407146

Elon seems to have confirmed.
Do you have app links for Port of Houston so that I/we can go look for other, related, ships? I hate to ask you for more research when I can do it myself but so far my looking on the Port of Houston site has been kind of a waste of time. I am guessing that I have to get an account and that is fine but I am not sure how to begin the search and you do.

That works for prototyping but not for production, which I thought was what we were talking about.

No reason they couldn’t use motors from other cars. The drive assembly and final gearing might be different, but they could drop a couple Model 3 motors into the rear end with different gearing.

At high zoom of the originals I cannot read that stamp. Just a 'little' more resolution and we would have it.

You only need permission above 200' at the port. Maybe someone could snoop the yards for the crates. Or was it Brownsville? There's no restrictions there except near downtown and their airport.

I saw a YouTube video yesterday that claimed the 9K is still in customs and when released will be trucked up to Austin. Is there any way to verify whether or not this is true from your sources?

I went to the myshiptracking.com (in my desperate need for information) and do not know how to best navigate the site. I also got a Lynx account for the Port of Houston but likewise do not know how to navigate that site. I am not interested in stealing anyone's thunder for research done; I just want to know what is going on.
