Has anyone ever seen that blue, crane, thing? With the massive chain in it in any photo of a Tesla facility. I mean that's distinctive.

The filthy stuff? If it’s meant to be a work truck, it’s going to get some dirt in there. even my current Model 3 isn’t completely clean - it’s often dirty. ?‍♂ It’s still a tool, after all.
It's not about the dirt per say; it's about the dirt, dust, pea gravel, decomposed granite, leftover mulch pieces, dead animal hair, etc blowing around inside the cabin when the midgate is open.

I didn't know you guys were so prissy or messy at the same time!

Cover your loads. Clean your bed. ^-^
Yes the answer would be to always clean your bed thoroughly. I can only speak for myself but I can tell you that does not happen and won't happen. I keep a pretty clean truck on the inside. But I might sweep the bed once a year. I have never power sprayed the inside of it to really clean it out. That would have to be done often to keep the crap from flying around if a midgate was open and the bed was not covered.

I'm not necessarily opposed to the midgate, (though I don't think it's going to be part of the production...at least not in the initial versions) because in theory, I think it's pretty cool. But I do see it causing more problems and complications and costs... and I don't think I would use it because I don't currently have a reason to use it.

its also 100% in gigatexas.
Why are you so certain it's Giga Texas?
It looks like an older facility to me, what with the tape worn off the seam in the concrete floor and other signs of wear and tear. Also, as I learned from Joe Tegtmeyer, there should be location labels on the pillars, so we'd know exactly where in the Gigafactory we were looking at.
Sorry if it seems like I'm jumping on all your thoughts... I don't mean anything negative towards you. I'm just adding my thoughts.

BTW, the 3D model I used for the overlay is an older one - with dimensions from the reveal, and even door handles - so that contributes to mismatching as well.

But, hey, I gotta thank the anonymous photographer who sent Kim the pic, and SolarWizard for posting it here - 11 pages of discussion in just a day!

Goes to show how we are bursting with anticipation.

The owners who want the mid-gate so they can use the cabin & vault/bed together while in camp mode will put in the time & effort to clean the bed before camp mode use or never use it for dirty/dusty jobs.

I concur. I'm not sure this is Austin.
I think so too. It does not look like Austin, Fremont, or Nevada.

It may me the fabricators who made this blanks factory where that big chain would look more at home.

That runner system along the roof is identical to the one in giga texas and the spacing on the building studs appears to match exactly. Factories get wear and tear.

That's what I was hoping, thinner SS that can be stamped. Otherwise it's going to look pretty bad as it has to be painted.
I'll have to walk this back. It actually looks good in matte black. I guess they ran the numbers and it's cheaper to have to paint it than doing it in SS. Makes sense as they already have that steel in large quantities for 3/Y production.

The gap between the two castings is probably being used for rear impact energy absorption - giving the truck a place to fold if it gets his from behind by something big. It looks pretty good because the stainless skin can carry some of the tension load if you have a heavy trailer and drive like an idiot and not break the frame (used to happen a lot more than it does now - anyone remember rear bumper mounted hay forks?) but still protect the passengers. The truck has to have somewhere to soak up crash energy so you don't have to wear a HANS device to drive it and that is an elegant solution.

By the way I love the extension cords on the floor and all of the trip hazards laying around. I had a meeting with a building trades inspector who worked at Giga Texas for about four months. He left because of what he described as very lax safety standards, especially with electricity. Things like lockouts not being used before newly installed high voltage circuits were double checked and signed off on and other safety procedures not being followed. He commented that they do some cool stuff but they need to grow up as a company and act like adults or people are going to die from easily preventable "accidents". Most safety rules exist because someone died or got mangled doing what this rule now says not to do.

Meh, I know people die at the intel site all the time and they basically keep it under wraps by not allowing them to be declared on site.

heck, a super was found beat to death a few weeks ago and zero news stories.
