...that full length horizontal red tail-light/brake light much more than what we have seen in the newer models. It is iconic, while the newer version is simply mundane.
...The only thing they changed from the original prototype is the sides of the truck project into the corners of the tailgate, so they don't have to replicate the truck lights when the tailgate is down.

The full tail light bar is still there, just not always plugged in.

I was referring to your drawings, which are from the patent that uses an illustration of the original prototype

I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make. That was *my* point to you.

referencing the photo below, your OP appears to be focused on the distance between the yellow line and the green line. Fine.

Regarding that distance, I personally believe your mental map is off, but that was besidea the point of my question.

because my question was all and only pointing out that it’s the distance between the below yellow line and green line is only a portion of the relevant issue. It’s the distance between the yellow line and the red line that determines the extent to which “the overhang protrudes into the vault, [and so is] in the way of large objects you might be hauling”

If “potato phone” photo is the sum of your critique, I don’t know why it doesn’t cut both ways for you
Like I said in response to @Sirfun his illustration is much better.

Not sure what is confusing here. The overhang is largely offset by the fact that it is mostly just reversing the inset where the window starts. Look at Sirfun’s drawing. Which part of the green line is confusing you?

I don’t get why you introduced the potatocam image at all which is worse than the image in the top post in pretty much every way.

Does using a blurrier image of the same part of the truck help your point somehow? The image you use you can barely make out any details, and it’s at a flat angle so you can’t even see the window is inset.

And *I* don’t get what you’re not following here

your “good” image shows only the distance between the window and the overhand

I responded, in effect, that even if you’re right, isn’t that only a portion of the relevant “overhang” as relates to the bed floor - and provided a photo that shows all that, using what I quickly had on hand

this is pretty obvious

My point was simply that the overhang is largely offset by the inset for the window. That is IT.

I have no clue what you are trying to say or dispute. It’s just a page long post with fuzzy images with lines. Nothing you’ve posted contradicts that point.

and I simply wondered aloud whether your definition of “the overhang” is the relevant one

to which you implicitly agreed it is not the relevent definition when you said:

The more the overhang protrudes into the vault, the more it’s in the way of large objects you might be hauling. Yes, people care about that.
Because your “good” photo doesn’t show everything relevant to what you say people care about

Overhang is mere inches. 2-3”

What do you want to see? I have 150ish images in good detail over the beta from Investor Day, most no one has seen.. incl the one @Ogre shared.

I love this personally. I use my truck to deliver large TVs all the time which mostly travel upright. So, the overhang is make / break on 6’ bed length.

I couldn't care less about that, i am just saying there are many more images - whats your point and what do you wanna see to make your point @cvalue13

Overhang isn't crazy. Are you saying it is and the images portray that wrong?

thanks, that would be great!

just to clear up what for some reason seems to be confusion over terms:

let’s for present purposes call the “overhang” just the eve trim extending over window - I believe this would a the part you’re referring to being 2-3” - below the tip if the eve closest to tailgate is in YELLOW

then let’s call distance from tip of the eve to window the “distance to window” - the window is indicated in ~GREEN (really the SS trimforward if thr

then finally let’s call the distance from the tip of the eve to the furthest forward part of the bed floor the “distance to forward bed floor” - indicated in RED

From the side, these are roughly the relevant bits that collectively make up the max distance from the forwardmost portion of the bulkhead to the rearwardmost tip of the eve

I think people may be confused because you want to change the name of what it's been called for the last 3+ years: the overhang.

The overhang does NOT go as far as your white lines imply.

But I guess that's relative to how far past WHAT is the overhang. I think we are all talking about how far past it goes from the "tonneau channel opening" aka the backrest. It's not very far. 2-3", again.

Hope someone maybe gets clearer images soon.

Finally, something that makes sense!

Your photo is taken from behind the truck which exaggerates all of the visible lengths and hides the inset size. The slope you’ve assigned to the front wall of the vault and the rear window is way too steep as a result. Also… the inset for the cover is wider than what you suggest which the less blurry photo from the side makes clear.

The angle this dude is taking the photo from is likely the ideal place to see how big the overhang is.

Looks like it’s about 2/3 of the length of that tie down. Maybe 4-6“ further out than the rear bulkhead.
