I can’t be the only one who thinks Tesla has nearly ruined the design by making the body shorter, narrower, and more boxy, while the bumper is much thicker. Thoughts?

I disagree. As previously mentioned by others, I'm very impressed at how close the production vehicle is to the concept. It looks very close, and still looks unlike anything on the road today.
I like the tighter overall appearance. The thicker bumper makes the front end look more balanced. I like the mirrors, and I can live with the BAW.

In this picture, the front end looks practically indistinguishable from the concept from the bumper up.

Also, the term "botched" is more appropriately applied to GM and the Chevy Bolt.

I’d *strongly* expect the “squatted” position will be the ride height in all but limited “offroad” settings that are speed limited

Um... The biggest difference in those 2 photos are the Benjamin Button's standing next to Franz.

I can recall a time when having big BAWs was 'looked down upon'
They WILL be acceptable soon, and CYBERNUTS might just be a thing!
Umm... How do you attach the CYBERNUTS to the BAW? I know that's where they belong but it might get pretty annoying having them flap about in the wind.

Here’s a thread from the LR Defender forums, that talks about some of the odd and counterintuitive effects of its 4-corner active air suspension. Given the off road bona fides, it’s got one of the more individually-adjustable OEM systems there are so far.

as you suggested in your post, to raise a single wheel actually takes a jack still, but makes the Jack work easier.

absent a jack, the system thinks it’s trying to lower the vehicle assisted by the vehicle’s weight. The shock therefore “weakens” and - absent any pressure upwards - the wheel actually drops instead of raises.

but do the same thing with a Jack under the control arm, and minimal upwards Jack pressure raises that wheel more easily

Tesla would be performing quite a trick for its system to work much differently - but we’ll see!
My wife's Model S has a "jack" setting in the service menu. I never really bothered to try to understand exactly what it does, I figured just held the adjustable suspension where it was while the forces on each piston changed, but maybe it was making adjustments to take pressure off the jack.

I've been contemplating whether I'd need to buy new floor jacks when I get my CyberTruck. Given its potential weight and ground clearance. I had to buy a new low profile jack when I bought my Model 3 because my antique one wouldn't fit under the rocker unless I drove onto some 2X6s.

Has anyone seen the cool ones that Tesla's Mobile Techs use? It's a floor jack, Tesla puck, and jack stand all in one. The closest thing to it I can find is Powerbuilt's U-Jack. The Tesla jackstand system has a Tesla puck integrated into a round disk that sits atop the jack plate. You jack it up then slip a frustum* shaped Jack Stand around the end of the floor jack and the puck disk lowers onto the jack stand. Now you can move the floor jack to the other wheel, put another puck disk on it, jack that one up, repeat (for as many wheels as you want off the ground)

*how's that for a $5 word? 😉

The Powerbuilt one requires smaller (lower rated?) jack stands because they have to fit inside the wheels of the floor jack instead of around it (larger higher rated jack stand with a wider base)

If anybody can find the ones Tesla uses available for sale on the internet, send me a link. They are brilliant!

The biggest thing for me is that in photos the “closer to production” prototype appears more toy-like than the original. We will have to see what it looks like IRL once people get their hands on them and start doing measurements comparisons to other vehicles

Ok, since nobody else has said it yet, the title of this thread is utter FUD. The OP shows shots with different lens and distances of near identical mold lines and acts like there are significant and detrimental changes while failing to acknowledge that there is still a very real possibility that some incredible features will be incorporated.

I don't know... The tow bar doesn't exactly proclaim "Happy to see you!" Perhaps it could be enhanced to be a grower not a show-er.

The BAW is most definitely the manliest location on the CT.

No need to assume surprise is a negative outcome.

Though if you get too surprised I'll be curious to see you eat your shoe.

What I meant to be saying above is: if Tesla allows one to put the CT in its upper heights - to look like the 2019 proto topped out in the on stage phot- while even around-town driving but def at >45/50mph, I’ll eat my shoe
Personally I'm not betting one way or another on any features.

And I have yet to see anyone with enough integrity to place a bet involving eating a shoe/hat/etc and then following through with said bet when they lose. It's an easy bet to make if you never intend to follow through. But that also indicates a low level of trustworthiness and reliability. Just saying.
