Can I pickup my Cybertruck at Giga Texas (factory delivery)?

Assuming preorder number will be the highest rated determining factor for vehicle allocation. Will Tesla let you drive/fly to Austin Tx to pick up your Cybertruck? Or will it be offered to preorder candidates that are located in states closest to Austin Tx first? Thoughts?

At the first Cyber Rodeo, they were delivering the initial Model Y's to customers. They'll probably do the same thing for the CT event.

Short term, I don't think they'll offer factory delivery. There's still construction everywhere, making it a logistical mess for visitors. Maybe eventually...?

I understood that Tesla buyers in TX can't take delivery in the state.

I'd love to hear from a TX Tesla owner on how the pickup process works. TX dealerships have a very strong lobby that opposes direct sales in the state. I am sure Tesla is lobbying to get the law changed.

BMW use to have an option were you could pick up your car at the factory. Take a tour of the factory and then drive your car home.

I live in Texas. When I bought my used model 3 from Tesla. I to pay in advance for the car. Have proof of insurance. Then they scheduled a pick up at the local center. I then had to wait for Tax/title etc to come in the mail. Then went to the local tax office. Paid state taxes and picked up the license plate, etc.

Another thing. The car was shipped from California. I dont know if that was a requirment or just where that specific car came from.

In the north parking lot, they had configured several delivery stations with significant staff. It seemed a little too ceremonial to just be for employees.

I live in fort worth..ordered a Model Y in early june.. picked it up at the fort worth tesla Service Center.. it had about 20 miles on it from factory testing.

so not sure on the law.. but yep tesla delivers in Texas to texans.. you just have to order online

I think there’s a confusion about who you buy from, vs where it’s delivered

As I understand it, in Texas you buy from say California, but can pick up in Texas, with the main result being that there’s not a TX dealer that can handle the TTL - they send you that info and instructions and you go to DMV yourself

You can def take delivery of teslas in Tx. You can’t pay someone in Tx for it.

I suppose one could ask if you can take delivery of a Tesla produced in texas, but that it was produced in Tx seems irrelevant to dealer laws - and I’m pretty sure we have people who live in Texas who have purchased test Texas built model Ys

While I have seen media stories, to the contrary, the substance of the stories never gave me confidence they knew anything

It’s very likely that the mandatory delivery fee is a profit center for Tesla. Even if they do allow pick up. You are still going to pay that fee

Auto Dealer franchise laws are VERY different state to state. Also, all states have Auto Dealer Associations which have tons of political clout and make up one of most states' strongest lobbying groups. This is a very sensitive subject, especially right now BECAUSE of Tesla, and to say these associations are protective of these laws is an understatement.

With Tesla's presence in TX they may have enough clout (read $$$$) to get this done with a "carve out", particularly if it adds some "tourist" dollars... but it will be tough. Fingers crossed.
