The same reason some semi trailers have plastic security seals on them. So they know if anyone opened it during delivery. Also, you don’t start producing and shipping vehicles in these numbers if you have that little confidence in the hood latch.
There are absolutely not using white masking tape for that reason

Im thinking that because the head lights depend on the trunk being fully seated/closed for beam alignment, there is a powered latching mechanism to produce a significant amount of force to overcome a large area of gasketing. Also if it's going to float that drunk needs to be water tight.
headlights dont depend on that

headlights are on the bumper assembly

hood is only a DRL

closeup vid surfaced

like the earlier transports with hood seams taped, suggests they’ve maybe got continuing water intrusion concerns

Huh. I wonder where these are going?

They usually just pile up the new model around the factory, with a few going off to be tested, but this is more than a few.

Makes the rumor that they're staging delivery candidates across the country more likely?

I guess we'll see.

I’m frunk frazzled. Why would you tape the frunk when it is not pointed into the relative wind and aerodynamically buffered by other vehicles? Water intrusion makes sense but that would be a defective design and it wouldnt leave the factory with such a flaw. Proprietary information about its contents - maybe… I dont fully understand the cult following of this vehicle so I wont speculate but it has me frunked up for the time being. .

I like @TyPope 's theory involving the "kick sensor." But who knows...
