Look at all that wasted space on the legacy pickup.

If you are talking about roof line, look at the difference between ground clearance. CT must be on low suspension setting.

Volume inside shouldn’t be too different. Ram design definitely will be awful as an EV at high speed but internal space in my F150 is very useful. I do wonder how much space saving there is comparing BEV truck power train to ICE. (Transmission, exhaust, guts under the hood vs battery, motors, cooling and inverters). That should be the real difference.

I don’t understand why folks ask this question. I’ve owned trucks for 25 years and never load stuff from the side of the bed. Too high to lift anything over to load. I’ve always just dropped the tailgate.

What would you load from the side?

I agree but if you were wanting to lean over the side of the bed (and scratch it) the height of the CT in that pic is lower then the Ram in the background anyway.

I loaded a kids bed, frame and mattress, into someone's truck yesterday. Nothing was loaded over the side.

I often see pickups with bed filled with misc junk (gas can, loose tools, lawn chair, half a 6-pack, etc.) and I think these are the people that reach in from the sides to grab stuff.

Look between the tires at the axle. I don't see that the legacy truck is higher at all. Being able to straddle a speed bump is a type of clearance, but not the kind that usually limits me.

I don't think throwing in counts as reaching in. This isn't basketball, is it?

I reach over the sides almost every time I use a truck. Whether tightening straps on a dirt bike, loading the gas bottles at the front, sliding small things little gaps in while helping move people, or even just placing things like plants at the front so they don't get thrashed by the wind. I'm sure height plays into it, both for the person and bed height, but a Silverado with a full bed is a pain to hop up in and walk around stuff.

Shovels, rakes, etc. Really, anything light enough that I don't have to drop the tailgate for.
I also load and unload my Mtn Bike from the side all the time.

I'm not saying the side sail is a deal breaker; just saying I load and unload from the sides often.
