Big News at Giga Texas on this 6 Oct 2023! If you are a short term analysts looking to fill a spreadsheet, or someone looking for a flashy new Cybertruck on the outbound lot, you just won't understand the milestone these images represent. Hint, we have never seen this many Cybertruck F & R castings ... ever. What could this mean?

I wonder if they are delaying the delivery event so they can crush the qty. The castings are surely the limiting factor of production numbers. If they delay and stockpile as many of those as possible and lets say they deliver in November. They could appear to produce 50k in 2 months and blow everyones minds. The factory is sized for it and who knows whats going on behind those doors. They could be fine tuning the highest production assembly line known to man in one of the largest buildings on the planet.

Given all the discussion here about RCs, MCs, crash tests, EPA certification, etc., my big question is whether Tesla would be producing this many castings for more tests, or if these are intended for actual production units - and what the latter would imply.

I'm the furthest thing from an engineer, but I'd imagine that if any one of the validation tests isn't complete, they wouldn't risk making this many castings in the off chance that a second- or third-order effect from a needed change due to crash test results (for example) would necessitate a change to the castings.

But maybe these are sufficiently divorced from the potential outcomes of any remaining testing that they can safely make these for production without having to go back and change some tiny part on each of them. Just seems like a really big public step, from a layman's perspective.

I would think the batteries would be the limiting factor. Anyone up to date on cell production?
4680 model y's tossed out the window for now, so it is all of the cells. more then enough to fill this batch of castings, but production is still ramping.. no new numbers as of yet, but weve seen new packs showing up and consistent development on the north side of the factory.

still roadmap builds pre-production

But if the castings themselves have been validated, no reason not to stockpile

in fact the casting run-rate I think requires they keep a baseload of stockpile for casting downtime

It is contrary to most corporate rules to have that much inventory unless there is a reason.
1. They may be using one casting machine for both front and rear castings so they do each in large batches in between tool changes.
2. Castings may need to age. Yes, aluminum can be age hardened.

All the negative posts. Why?

I know we all have questions and concerns we post mixed in with our posts full of excitement or just trying to have fun and get a laugh but lately all I am seeing from you is FUD. Wish you would reconsider you reservation.
