I used to have that feature on an Oldsmobile Omega I bought for $900. All you need a little bit of frame damage. And it is a very useful feature. Once a police officer found me, allegedly doing 90 and instead of pulling me over just told me to slow down. I bet he thought I could not afford a ticket (he was half right).

Well you'll be glad to know that it doesn't cost more money.... it is simply an added bonus of the current configuration (all wheel steer) and you won't be mandated to use it... ;)

You will appreciate the "significant value" when you have to take an evasive maneuver at high speed on the freeway. Of course, if your "use case" is to never drive over 30 mph, then maybe it is of no value. But, in the off chance you do drive faster than that, you will be amazed at the stability difference between the two. I had the chance to drive two identical cars ( 1 with, 1 w/o) back to back on a test track. Wild! And as the vehicle gets bigger, it just gets better.

I do not see it costing any more money since they already have 4WS. It is just a driving mode. Software development yes, but it is hard to put a dollar amount on an extra feature in software. Definitely agreed on the value of crab walking (and lack thereof).

No body from Tesla claimed that was a crab walk. The CT is being testing. LOL

Crab walk is not a feature in itself, but an ability enabled by software and the mechanics of rear-wheel steering (along with a tighter turning radius). When the rear wheels are turned opposite to direction of a crab walk, that provides a much tighter turning radius which for many is certainly a value in a lot of use cases.

With software, they could make rear wheel steering provide only a tighter turning radius, crab walk, both, or neither - all customizable by the owner/driver in their profile. But I don't presume to know how Tesla will implement it, as it may also be an option of all automatic, or disabled. We'll know those specifics soon enough.

I don't think many will understand the value of certain new features until they try them, because without actual experience with their (use cases), they can't really know the true value of a feature beforehand.

.. and what @BigAl said above and below (didn't see their posts while typing this). ;)

So you never plan on making a U-turn at a light, or driving around in a tight parking garage or simply turning around without having to make a 15 point turn.... Will this be your first truck??? Sounds like it... then let me be the first to tell you that trucks are not as nimble as cars... trust me... you'll use it. ;)
