Huh? You want a motor to close the tailgate?

If you have never owned a pickup before, I guess you will have to trust me when I tell you that would be more trouble/expense/weight/complexity than it's worth.

It's dead easy to flip it up into a closed position.
I’ve owned pickup trucks before and yes, I’d also love a motorized tailgate.

To each their own, man.

They were both part of the unveiling, just in a photograph that wasn’t talked about.
You are right. I doubted it but went back and looked and sure enough it showed bed storage. Good call and memory.

Why? Why not just use your arms to close it and feel like a trucker while doing so? I don’t get why people want to have finicky electrical stuff that will inevitably be costly to replace when it breaks.

Maybe so they can show up their F-150 Lightning owner neighbor? ?‍♂
Maybe carpel tunnel syndrome from playing too many video games? ?‍♂
Maybe so they don't get their hands dirty? ?‍♂

Meh. If I wanted to feel like a trucker I would have become a trucker. Haha

I’m far too lazy to want to shut my own tailgate. I look at it like the auto closing trunks of S 3 X Y as well as my partners X5 Hybrid. I mean I could just reach up and close those by hand like a commoner but why would I? :)

I like the idea of having my hands full and being able to touch a simple button and walk away.

As far as breakage goes, I’m not convinced a self closing truck tailgate would be any more delicate or finicky than a self closing tailgate. Maybe I’m wrong but there it is.

As for why? Why not???

Ford and Chevy both have remote powered tailgates. It’s one of a hundred convenience options on trucks today. It’s nice to not have to get out of your truck when you forget to close it, or go back outside after carrying an armful of items inside your house.

If it breaks, so what, just close it like a traditional tailgate if you can’t be bothered to fix it.

There was also a pic of the open frunk (standard hood opening at the time). I have it around somewhere.

Why?(A) Why not just use your arms to close it and feel like a trucker{B} while doing so? I don’t get why people want to (C) have finicky electrical stuff that will (D) inevitably be costly to replace when(E) it breaks.
A. As someone else said, why not? why does it have to make sense to you? Can't other people do things you don't understand, and it just makes them happy, or even just smile?

B. You assume that someone closing a gate by hand feels something, and that something they feel is always the same and exactly what you feel, which can be equated to feeling like "a trucker". I'm not even sure they all feel that way, even the, you know, real truckers.

C. Again, why do you HAVE to know? Can't you just accept that different people like different things?

D. You apparently know that something is going to fail. How many moving parts are in an electric motor??? And you know it "WILL" fail. evidently before everything else.

E. Not "IF", but "WHEN"? Again, how many parts are there in an electric motor? And you are certain it WILL break. But you never said in what time period it WILL break?

It's almost like Ford and Chevy are struggling to differentiate their trucks from one another, no matter how ridiculous and small that difference is. It's a race to ridiculousness. Next year we can expect Chevy to advertise that their auto-close tailgate has 0.1 more HP than Ford's and closes a tenth of a second quicker. Then Ford will advertise a special "soft-close" that won't wake up a sleeping baby. GM will add a special chime that let's you know it is latched securely.

Tesla has no need of using add-on gimmicks to differentiate themselves in the market, the difference is obvious.
