So the fold up rear seat must allow the fronts to lean WAY back right? Maybe even enough to sleep in?

so the CT was introduced in 2019 to come out in 2021, Rivian actually got it produced in 2021, so tesla had an extra two years to become more efficient and cost effective than Rivian, but basically they are the same vehicles (minus the stainless steel). Perhaps tesla is loosing its edge and I should sell my tesla stock and buy Rivian.
I'm not sure that's such a good idea considering that Rivian sells their trucks for less than it costs to make them. A Rivian that sells for $80K costs about $113K to manufacture.

A smart investor doesn't look at MSRP, they look at margins. Even Tesla will have negative margins until they ramp to at least 50K per year, but they have priced it to sell at positive margins when manufacturered in sufficiently high volumes.

The R1T and R1S probably need to be re-engineered to hit positive margins and it's not clear the market for such a truck is large enough to support the kind of volumes they will need to hit profitability. In other words, to address a large enough market to make the truck profitable to sell, they likely have to lower the price. It's in an awkward position in terms of cost of manufacture at any given volume level and demand at that price point. They may have to keep prices below the cost to produce in order to sell in high volumes. That's why I said the vehicles probably need to be re-engineered to be cheaper to produce in order to sell profitability.

Tesla appears to have priced the Cybertruck high enough from the start, that they can achieve profitability simply by ramping to higher volumes, even if they have to lower the price to keep demand strong enough to fully utilize one production line. I'm not worried about the Cybertrucks ability to become profitable in a much more reasonable timeframe than Rivian has already taken without achieving profitability.

The elephant in the room is truly the battery. 4680 is supposed to have sufficient density to substantiate the 500mi range, and offer cost saving to support the price. It's boasted as the biggest thing 4 years ago and would change everything and leave everybody in the dust. 4 years later, it's not happening. What you can get, is a big ass chunky "range extender" on the bed, $16K, which still doesn't get you close to 500 mi. All these Youtubers, including Sandy Munro, NowYouKnow, Farzad, Dave Lee, etc., have been deliberately avoding probing too much into the root cause. I don't care about bad news or good news, but honest fact based, intellligent analysis is what I respect deerly.
It truly is. There are a couple of YouTubers who pointed out how terrible the 4680s are compared to the 2170s. I think they're still a few years away from getting that right. I have a feeling that if they had to do this over again, they'd just stick with the 2170s. I'm still completely confused on why they don't just double stack the pack. Maybe they will in the future, if they ever get enough cells to warrant it.

YouTubers haven't tested second generation 4680's yet.

It's mostly a matter of how good the thermal management system is and Tesla is light-years ahead of everyone else.

I don’t know how I missed this but I just noticed there’s an EST. before the new prices. So these aren’t even final. Yikes.
That's a good sign, they left room to lower the prices depending upon how the early ramp pans out and how many cancellations they get.

So, everyone do your part and cancel your reservation immediately, so we can get them to lower the price as much as possible! ?

Consider also the exchange rate 1.37 :1 between Canadian pain the US pain
are you sure? I thought you can do v2g from the CT directly to temporarily power you home in case electricity goes out. how can we know for sure?

Feeling annoyed and crotchety. :p

For a given value of 'happy', I'd have been happy with a Tri priced at anything under about $92k. Ah well.
you'll be fine with a dual AWD model... did you test drive it yet? check out Sandy Munro's reviews of CT.. .he says that THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE IS DIFFERENT... ELON MADE THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE THE FUTURE.... the question is how much people want or can afford to make their future look like the future in the next 1-3 years.. some will make sacrifices, other won't, others can't and will have to find another dream to follow....such is life....

C,

First off, I gotta say, I love ya man. You had some pretty accurate intel, and only a couple things that weren't right.
see gif below

meanwhile, I’m curious what things are on your list that I didn’t ā€œget rightā€

nit at all asking from perspective of disagreeing, but instead that there’s been so much info swirling and I’ve been relatively unplugged since yesterday’s whirlwind that I’m behind the info curve after a day ?

havet had time to watch even a single review!

at the end of the day, i suspect there were maybe 10-20 people total inside Tesla that knew about all the verticals of info (eg current trucks, vs future models like the single, vs accessories team, etc.) - people very close to the trucks still had plenty of surprises yesterday.

Stamp out my ignorance!

I thought I would have a couple of years before my number came up and was hoping to get some iteration on the design before that happened. Now I’m a little concerned that my time to order will come up much earlier than that. Think I’ll have to continue waiting and pass if my number does come up. Hopefully it gets a little more compelling in a couple of years.

I could be wrong, but I thought you stated there would be no single motor. If that wasn't you, then you're batting darn near 1000. Everything else was spot on. Besides, if I said you were virtually perfect, someone here would tell us to" get a room." So I left the option open.

Yes, there is a whole lot of hand wringing and crying about stuff that were assumed. Quite a few they were told wasn't possible. Oh well...
