Chains are a pain in the ass, so is like to avoid them. Even though I have them, I've been able to avoid having to use them since I have blizzak tires on my model x, which are threepeak, not m+s. I'm assuming that the distinction is the soft rubber for icy conditions.
I’ve always lived in the south and I have very little experience in snow..I’m curious if anyone has used the fabric tire socks type of traction aid. Any good in snow/ice conditions?
(I’ve thought about just keeping some in the car just in case)

The control arm bolt is looking a bit tight for chains
I'm curious why that bolt extends so far beyond the nut. It could probably be shorted a bit?

I ordered a set for my fronts on the MY… if you have AWD and you place a set on both front and rear, most of the time they will outperform chains. I have a set of chains on the rear. Best of both worlds.

I’m wondering who will be the first to aftermarket this part and improve it.

Good to know, I drive a Y as well. Thanks.

Having a hard time finding the specs. Are these available anywhere? In particular do I need to buy snow specific tires for driving in heavy winter conditions? Do they have the three peak mountain snow symbol?

Thanks
Looks like you're SOL. You better give me a ride if you get yours before me.

Maybe we should look at different rims (17“ instead of 20“)

https://arctictrucks.no/produkt/arctic-trucks-classic-sort-at35-og-at37/

with 17“ you have a better chance to get real winter tires

with spikes

without spikes

https://arctictrucks.no/produkt/35″-nokian-hakkapeliitta-lt3-piggfritt/

but the same tire is also available in 20“

I agree. I saw some Bronco's online with 17inchers with snow tires. I think that is our only option until Tesla and/or some other mfg makes some bespoke cybersnows...

T-Sportline mentioned that the brakes may be too large for 17" rims.

Then the CT needs hand-made snowtires.

These are my 37" MTs modified for winter-use used on my
actual Toyota Hilux Arctic Trucks AT37

For the fins (???) in the middle they take a special machine in Norway

Or you use a old technique from the 70ths.

@K-Shizzle btw. I love Seattle. Been there in the late 80ths at a visit of the USS Enterprise :) Good memories at Pike Place Market and the underground :)

Tire socks must be uninstalled if car is not in motion--aka they freeze to the road surface and tear. Not the case with chains. Fortunately tire socks are quick and easy (no personal experience) relative to chains.

Both of these options are kinda lame as they are speed limited. Better performace is a dedicated snow / winter tire: rubber compound formulated for <40*F dry plus snow.

Chains can freeze, too, and become loose with temperature shifts. Tires sitting on them too long can get damaged. But over a week, checking their fit each day during the drive, they'll be fine.

Socks are more for getting that car or truck in or out of a snowstorm than for regular use. Which they're great at! They take up less space/weight, they don't corrode, they can be faster to put on and check the fit of.

No "3 Peak" on the RC at Littleton, CO service center.

Keep in mind the "3 peak" standard only means a 10% increase in acceleration traction versus a "baseline tire." IMHO most of us want more deceleration traction, to avoid loss of control at speed situations.

I am often in Lake Tahoe. Though i have a tire chains, It has been unnecessary for me to put it on even in last year's heavy snow.

It's Good Year Wrangler but I bet Cybertruck's range will suffer with it's aggressive configuration.

This is the same thing. At the edge, yes, whether your tire is spinning forwards or backwards matters, but the test is 'acceleration' because that's what they can test for. Deceleration is either the same or going to give a wider range of results.

M+S is going to generally be less deceleration than a winter rated tire. Less consistent contact patch.

What about tire compound? I'm most concerned about icy conditions. I assumed that 3peak would have the softer winter rater rubber compound, which would work better on ice, right?
