Remember peeps, since the battery does switching magic to charge at lower voltage, once v4 comes out it should be better (im thinking it wouldn't need to switch like that)

But I've charged at a supercharger like 6 times in 2023 so the curve isnt super important to me personally.
Currently 5 V4 chargers in the US out of 2,000 superchargers? So super available

Trip warriors. AKA those of us who need to use a vehicle to travel over the 180 miles of range the CT has. :)
But yea, hopefully the V4s start rolling out, granted with delivery ramp of CT they have a couple years to get them pushed out.

How often are you doing super long road trips in the winter?

I mean winter is about 1/4+ of the year depending where you live. I drive over 250 miles about 5-10x a month and not wanting to arrive with low battery a supercharger is kind of necessary if the truck has 190 miles of real world range.

Seeing as the 250kw supercharger is not the limiting factor here, given the ideal circumstances, the charge curve would seem to be what it is for the time being until Tesla gets more aggressive with a software update. The pack itself being in 400v or 800v configuration only affects the actual charging cables, allowing them to be thinner, it doesn’t allow the pack itself to magically accept a faster charge rate.

Why wouldn't it? If the cables are able to be smaller, that's because of less heat right? Less heat, less need to protect the battery from heat. I don't know how much of the slowdown is from that, but it has to be some amount.

Or more power for same amperage

Under 400 wh/mile for his stats since last charge doesn't seem too bad
Somehow the thread was edited or changed since my post. There's more info now to digest. Seems better now, but we know that range will be eaten up in no time with higher travel speeds in the CT.

If you are driving 250 miles even in winter, an 8 minute SC stop on a v3 supercharger even assuming the bad charging curve shown here, bumps you an extra 23% capacity.

I am hugely bothered by the range and energy consumption, but the charging curve is no big deal. The one shown here is meaningfully worse than the Model S (though significantly better than the F150). As someone else said, it is completely normal for Tesla and other OEMs to start conservatively on teh charging curves in a new model and then bump them via OTA.

250 miles one way? or round trip? Realistically, thats going to be a short charging stop if you really need to stop. 3/4 of the year isnt winter then right? So your range would be better by that fact alone.

So, if you plan to do that trip that often, surely you arent planning on keeping all terrain tires on the truck right? Cause, as weve seen, in town it can get to rated range over 50 something miles.

Taking this rivian as example. With bigger rims and road tires, its rated for 352 miles but swap for the 20" wheels with all terrain tires and it drops to 307.

Tesla has always been pretty bad at range estimations but I dont think the range is under 200.

My guess is, when tesla was doing their range calculations for the AT, they probably leaned heavier city driving (Which is stupid) because we have seen an example of under 400wh/mi over 50+ miles. and as weve all seen, the range is going to be bad on highway on the AT. (Although I dont like the data we are getting because there are too many unknowns). But the possibility exists that it is much better on the all seasons, especially in better weather. I watched that short again from our cyber life when he had 667ish wh/mile and it was 33 degrees out (or something like that). I am also curious about the suspension settings available on highway. If you can lower it more for increased efficiency. or if the videos weve seen are rocking normal/high height

Since you would be doing a round trip and elevation would likely cancel out. I am thinking youd get much further than you think. May only have to charge in one direction for like 20 minutes.

You should play with a betterrouteplanner, it will let you adjust consumption and starting SOC to see what you would be looking at for your drive in the winter on all terrains. If I knew your addresses I would try it cause i am legit curious.

I don't understand the doom and gloom about these numbers.
A short drive showing high consumption is completely normal as is a longer drive.
I see exactly the same thing (but with different numbers) on my Model 3.
Also don't understand why folks are seemingly expecting the same range regardless of driving conditions.

Odd that the outlets dont work while charging
There may be other reasons, but one theory I have is to not allow charging from itself. I know I would have tried it just to see what happens. :)
