I agree with you @OnTheSnap and others that have commented on this.

I think the FS tires are def the culprit here for what people perceive as a range drain.

Just curious and I’m far too lazy to look this up but wouldnt it be possible for people that order the FS series to swap the ATs out for All Season tires when they get the truck and then sell the AT’s? Are they a Tesla proprietary size?

Help my holiday hungover mind with this… haha

Many people do this with the OEM wheels and tires. That's how I always buy my snow sets and extra tires. A lot of significant others really don't like for tires and wheels sitting around in the garage or someplace and they tend to get offloaded quickly.

I had the same concerns and tried to pull out of the FS but was told by Tesla that it was either cancel and lose the down payment and place in line or buy the FS. (I cancelled altogether which made me very sad but so it goes.) Another person posted on here that Tesla told him he could just not finish the purchase process and he would retain his place in line. It is worth a phone call to see what they say.

PS We also have a Model S LR (2023) - it is a road trip monster for sure.
+ 1 on this. My only concern is the range. I have ordered FS Cyberbeast. So the range will be even lower than Dual motor. I was told by Tesla rep to just hang tight and not cancel. When my time comes, if I'm not ready to buy, I'll ask them to put me on the waiting list for non-FS under the same reservation number. Tesla rep said it's possible to do that. I'll take that with a grain of salt though.

As others said, the alternatives are no better in terms of range. Lightning or Rivian are in the same ballpark. So CT range might not be as bad as we imagine. Worst case if I'm not happy, I'll sell after one year. I hope there will be someone to buy FS after one year. IMO, CT is more than just an electric truck. There are people who see value in it.

If you cancel, you are back to square one. So talk to Tesla rep before cancelling your order.

Do you think we have anyway of getting out the 1k down payment considering the range seems to not be what was advertised?
Yeah I don’t think there’s anyway you get out of eating that $1k of you cancel.

Estimates are just that. Estimates.

200 miles of real world real driving range, and an hour to charge a good % of the battery.
Really grateful I did not get a FS email as a couple of weeks ago I would have gone for it.
After seeing the range and charge stats I will be waiting for it at a minimum, maybe looking at other vehicles.

The truck consumption is 592 wh / mile or better in real world , based on screen shot shared after 6000 miles
That gives range of 123000 / 592 = 207 miles average range or better.

Is anyone else having serious concerns/remorse on the foundation series range?
You are not alone. I am canceling my Foundation Series reservation and demanding a refund.

This was not the truck that was advertised, or that we were promised.

Not even close.

The pitiful range and slow charge times and totally unacceptable for any vehicle of this price point.

Anybody that's considering this might want to get in touch with Tesla prior to a VIN being assigned. Once a VIN has been assigned. The car has been batched for production then transport for that service center for delivery.

Some might have the opportunity to as pause or maybe transfer the $1,000 to the purchase of another Tesla.

Yet once that VIN is in you are done..

If you don't go through how you're going to pay for it, the registration information, etc. You will not proceed to the next step which is getting a VIN so don't put that information in.

I'm pretty sure that the word estimate was provided on range when it comes to EPA indicated. I know a lot of people got excited and put that $1,000 down. Yeah it didn't get you any head or behind the line.

Is anyone else having serious concerns/remorse on the foundation series range? I completed my down payment Christmas eve, and since have been seeing range tests maxing out around 250 miles on the freeway.

I currently have a 2022 Model S long range (405 mile range) and have done the trip Milwaukee to New Orleans. All went well and I felt 400 miles was enough to comfortably stop and recharge every 3-4 hours.

I was planning to use the CyberTruck to travel to Florida frequently. Having to stop every 2 hours kind of changes the dynamic of the trip.

Do you think we have anyway of getting out the 1k down payment considering the range seems to not be what was advertised?
The recent hwy range test from 100% was 265 miles at 70 in cold temps. Say from 80%, that is 203 miles. In this example, that is 2.9 hours of driving between charges.

Now take a more normal case where there is regen, and maybe some slower speeds, higher ambient temp, maybe some more economic wheels and tires, i think one could expect maybe 270 miles and 4 hours of driving between charges, which seems fine to me. With the exception of myself, I don't know many people who drive more than 4 hours without a break

I am inquiring myself or to see if the deposit can be extended to my original reservation and keep my place in line. I have not been happy with the results I am seeing from current owners and I wanted to use my CT to travel the US in the next year or two but range will be a huge inconvenience even wit extended as real time results seem to be reporting 80% of advertised range. Waiting to hear back from Tesla as to my options. Will update if/when I receive info.

Can this be a master thread for all the foundation series refund people? I have a feeling we are going to be seeing more of those posts.

you would eat $1,000 and lose your place in line for the next few years to account for maybe a few weeks of firmware updates?

I certainly wouldn't throw in the towel for that.

I really started this thread just to understand my options and of course get a different point of view than what I have been harboring internally. Thanks for everyone's feedback it definitely gave me a few different perspectives. Also please share if Tesla offers options when inquiring on your own personal deposit.
