The Fast Lane Truck

Wow this was enlightening on the various things about changing the height of your vehicle -mechanically (springs, etc) or with a push button on the screen. [aka CT low, med, high]

LSS:

If you mod something make sure you have a holistic look at it. Or you could really change both the rating and handling. Kind of poops all over the aftermarket world. Many of them can't do the things the giant OEM's do from testing etc.

Not sure it has anything to do with the Cybertruck. Raising height for situations is very different then a perm 7 inch lift kit like I have on a suburban.

What does this have to do with the Cybertruck, tho? -Crissa

A) My angle:
1) I mentioned "adjustable" in the title (plus push of button text) to be clear it is related to the CT since you can change it.
2) Changing tire height/sizes - which many talk about doing and the video talks about.

B) If someone is pulling a trailer in the Cybertruck then they have 3 heights they could set the vehicle at:
  1. High
  2. Med
  3. Low
This would be the equivalent in the video of manually changing your ICE rig to a fixed 1 of 3 heights and thus the related issues that the video talked about. HTH

C) I forget who posted this excellent video but I think many people towing with the CT (Rivian, etc) think that if it is level then it is good enough. That really doesn't put the weight back on the front wheels thoe.

It's actually a little worse, since you're using up possible travel with the height changes. Which is why high mode is speed-limited.

Still thinking it through and eager to get some hands-on, but it does confirm that adjusting the air pressure isn't the same as a load balancing hitch.

The only thing that I would ding the video on is that I think they needed to add more height to their load levelers. It didn't bring the truck back to level, maybe another chain link.
I know that on a number of vehicles that I rigged, it always important to get the right chain link for the levelers. One too few and the tow vehicle wasn't flat.

And one thing that many people, especially pickups don't seem to consider is that the trailer and the hitch have to be made equal height first.

Yea, air suspension just wouldn't make sense to my engineering mind why they would shift the load. And these weights and balancers showed it. Reducing the weight on the front axle is never good.
