I’ve been browsing other sites where people are writing really hateful comments about the looks of the Cybertruck.

I just can’t help but think this may be a target of getting keyed.

Are there ways to deter this? Maybe some kind of decals that illustrate it’s always recording?

How difficult would it be to repair keyed panels made of stainless steel?

I'm curious to see the first video of this being tested. I'm not sure a common house or car key will even cause a scratch.

If a panel was scratched, it will really depend on the depth of the scratch, but sanding and light polishing should be possible.

…it will scratch.

Some of the YouTubers are already reporting slight scratches appearing on surface, without even trying. I’m curious to know where theses slight scratches are coming from if indeed true

Little scratches here and there will be 'visible' at the right angle and light, but it won't be like a regular car getting keyed, where the mark is an eye sore whenever you approach your vehicle.

Anything minor but more significant, would require someone have something with them that could actually do the job and they would need to apply more force. As someone else has mentioned, you could sand this down. I would recommend still going through comprehensive insurance and having Tesla do it to make sure it's even with the rest of the truck. A significant scratch would still not be overly noticeable, but a long patch of stainless finished differently than the rest of the truck, that would be very noticeable.

And of course anything deeper than that, if someone really went to town on your truck and left huge grooves in it, any affected panels would likely need to be replaced. Likely not something that more than one in a million owners will have to deal with.

Resistance to this kind of damage is a major selling point of the SS skin being so hard. I would absolutely love to see someone destroy their keys trying to scratch a CT. Given how stupid people can be it will happen. I can see it now: “Karen gets stranded after trying to key Cybertruck - film clip at 11:00” :)

Also with a regular car the paint is what’s being damaged. There are plenty of videos online of people scratching Teslas. Nothing we can do to stop an asshole from being an asshole.

What would be nice is to get a notification when Sentry mode picks up activity and be able to communicate from our phones through the external speaker and scare the shit out of them. Or even better, have Ludacris’ song play “move bitch get out the way, get out the way” at about a 10.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm used to parking vehicles far way from others to prevent door dings. Maybe I'll continue the practice to discourage keying. I wonder how many people have been arrested for vandalism after being caught on Sentry Mode video for keying Teslas in general?

Since the CyberTruck is covered in cameras and can have them on even when parked and unoccupied I would think that this will happen only a couple of times because every person who does it will likely be caught on camera and then held liable for the repairs and probably criminally prosecuted. Once a couple of EV haters try it and have to pay out to fix it then either pay heavy fines or jail time and then the word gets out on the street / internet that this happens pretty much every time someone keys it… my guess is it won’t happen too much more after that.

Usually the people who would do such a thing are about as unintelligent as humans get. I would think the majority would be caught as a result.

Vandalism, break ins, and GTA attempts involving Teslas aren’t very common because they are unsuccessful and the criminals mostly get caught red-handed on video.
