Tesla’s glazing is already supposed to address this

before you spend on additional films, have a reputable tent shop use their meters to determine how much blocking (of all UV spectrums) the existing glazing is already accomplishing

That should help you hone in on whether the existing glazing has some specific deficiency that can be addressed by adding a new film

there are some types of heat transmission that no film will address.

that must be a lie and not you.
I got the chance to go for a ride in one finally today.

nowhere near as cool in the cabin as one of my vehicles after sitting in the sun ~ 45 minutes. not gonna names but a few people were running around saying not to wrap the truck because something this stainless would reflect more heat. anyone that's own a nice bbq grill knows just how hot stainless gets in the sun. any color wrap will at worst be the exact same.

its the glass. the roof lets in heat. all the windows let in heat especially the gigantic windshield. llumar ceramic or 3M crystalline definitely going on my truck.

How about the top windows shade avail on the Tesla store? doesn't help windshield but should help overall and pretty cheap. I have the M3 set and it helped.

respectfully I think two things are getting confused. first, stainless steel is very reflective, and wrapped stainless is definitely less reflective than bare stainless. same theory goes for metal roofs versus practically any other type (tile, which itself is better than composite, etc). more reflective means cooler inside the cabin. HOWEVER, if you're referring to how hot bare stainless is to the touch, then sure, stainless is going to FEEL hotter--it transfers heat much more quickly to your skin than stainless wrapped with plastic will.

I have had 3m crystalline on a couple of cars, including one Tesla, and xpel prime XR plus on another Tesla. I think 3m is a good product, but for me xpel prime XR plus blocks heat better. regardless, I'm looking forward to getting my front windows tinted asap after I get the truck!

Finally we are having nice sunny days in NorCal and noticed CT gets hot very quickly under the sun due to the large windshield and its angle.
I plan to tint very upper part of windshield. any other solution you can think of ? do not say just turn on A/C to max.
Are you allowed, by law, to tint your windshield? I know you can put a strip on the top, but thought it was illegal to tint the whole thing... seems like there could be some legal exposure if you were in an accident and you had tinted your windshield illegally?

I only pay about $150 when I have my front 2 windows tinted to match the rears of other cars. I wouldn't think a simple, yet large, front window would break the bank. I plant to tint it clear immediately.
The Cybertruck windshield is the largest piece of automotive glass you could tint. It's about 60*x60". You need the largest roll of film possible. The edges are hard to get just right and the camera cutout is a pain.
If you're buying a high quality tint film that has ceramic in it for the heat rejection then that alone is going to be $150. Cheap dark tint won't do anything to prevent the cabin from warning up.
Unless you have a 7 foot wingspan you'll probably need someone to help you unroll the tint, so it's not just a one person install job.
All of those factors combined make keeping contaminants out of the film really difficult. You don't want to have a piece of dust in front of your eye every time you drive.
Also the time it takes to prep such a large piece of glass, the length of the dash, etc make it a time consuming job.
The Cybertruck is a surprisingly difficult vehicle to tint and wrap due to its large size. And someone who is trying to save a couple hundred bucks by going to a Waffle House of tint (where they focus on just getting as many cars tinted as possible) is going to to have a noticeable difference in quality.

If you dont make it dark. like using 85% tint. then no one will know. I dont have windshield tint anymore because i got tired of replacing it after my windshield would get cracked (in CO) but when i got into an accident no one was inspecting my vehicle for modifications.

I suppose if you blamed your tinted windshield they may get you . or if you like mowed down a family of 4 in the dark

All good insights, not planning to do this myself, but will report back once I have it done.

There is a lot of things not "allowed, by law" that increases "legal exposure" but we all do it, one thing or another, anyway.
In Florida, it is definitely illegal to tint the windshield, from 316.2952:
Have to lookup that standard and see what the heck the "AS/1 Portion" is. Maybe with the Cybertruck, a larger "top strip" could be tinted and be legal in FL, since the whole thing is so big?

I created a video to show the difference between a non-tinted window and a ceramic-tinted window. We don't stock the cheap film, so I couldn't do the comparison with cheap film.

The Reader's Digest:
The ambient temperature of the room was 74 degrees.
The ceramic-tinted window had a temperature of 84 degrees.
The no-tint window got up to 112 degrees before the glass cracked and I had to move on.

look at the windshield on your current vehicle, and you’ll see the AS1 mark on the glass, showing below which you can’t tint

think city Cybertruck is, while there will be a lot of glass above that line, there is also behind that glass a lot of trim/headliner

it’s a bit confusing to the eye to appreciate what is merely glass outer, vs what is relevant windshield

in a Ct, there should be quite a lot of glass above the AS1 line (aside from the sensors), not relative to driver field of view

Conversely and in balance, the CT also has quite a lot of lower glass a normal vehicle doesn’t

Does anyone know if the stock tinted rears and roof glass have UV protection? Or if you want full heat and sun protection, we have to re-tint these?
