Well this is confusing. The Tesla PowerShare site says No additional equipment required when homes are equipped with Powerwall and Wall Connector. But in the video they talk about installing the 3V gateway. So which is it?!?!? Do you or do you not need the new gateway if you have a Powerwall and wall connector already?
The guy said no, you’re good to go if you already have Powerwall.

Ok, watched a bit of this but didn’t have time for the whole thing. Question is: I know this can serve as a home backup in case of a power outage. But can it serve, such as the powerwall, as an energy offset device for times of peak usage to bring down your electric bill?

So I take it with the 60A breaker for the power wall (PW), the power that the PW can handle, and the fact that power can flow both ways through the breaker, the amount of power that can be delivered to the house will not be more than 11.52Kw? I may have missed this if it were specified somewhere.

Powershare is rated at 11.5kW.

Thanks, I guess I was too lazy to look for this...

Although it's a nice start, I think the 11.5kW is a tad too low. It would have been better if Tesla went back to their 19.2kW power walls and 19.2kW charging on the Cybertruck to support higher power V2H backups.

they would have to install a larger onboard charger then the 48 amp onboard charger if that were to be true, and that would be a waste. there is a reason they stopped offering 80 amp dual chargers in 2017, either they realized the pack cant handle it and need to step down to 48 amp or people just werent using iot and it added unnecessary costs or something. either way Cybertruck and all other teslas only come with an onboard charger that can use 48 amp so 11.5kw is all your getting anytime soon. if ever

Yes, I realize that: I have three GEN–2 wall connectors that are at 80 A which share power on 125 amp breaker box. Started with the Gen–1 for my 2012 model S which had dual chargers and was 80 A; then stepped down to 72 A for the first model X; now only using 48 amps for my 2023 model X. The pack can handle the 80 A, considering that a supercharger puts in more power. It’s always nice to be able to charge the cars at home much faster than the current 48 A.

Same setup here.

who knows the reasons they stopped offering it, maybe there was data suggesting it wasnt healthy to charge daily at 20kw. i do love charging at 20kw on my S tho when i need to, plus if 1 were ever to die i still have a second one as backup lol

I bet it had nothing to do with the battery health. Probably cheaper to do an 11.5kW charging system onboard than 20kW. And they figured if you can charge the biggest battery on 11.5kW in 10 hours (assuming 80-90% daily use) then nobody would care.

No, at least not at the moment but I seriously doubt Tesla will ever develop this as an option.

You simply don't want to tax your vehicle battery like that.

I just heard back from my solar contractor. He reached out to Tesla and was informed that the 3V gateway is required for Powershare.

It doesn't really tax that battery. A Cybertruck has about five times the amount of power a house uses in a day.

But no one is asking to shift an entire house's usage, either. It would just be the third of the day during 'peak'. Which would be one fifteenth the power in a Cybertruck.

That's like driving 25 miles a day.

Hardly taxing. Sentry Mode can use that much energy.
