I heard thru the grapevine (the tube) that CT could not be delivered in Colorado.. so a few were coming to California for ‘delivery’
I would surmise that all the Tesla centers here in Colorado are maxed out of storage space. There is at least 25-30 Cybertrucks sitting in COS. Maybe going to CA because we can’t handle anymore?‍♂

Or "franchise dealerships" as opposed to "manufacturer owned dealerships."

Actually, they're totally allowed to sell directly. They decided long ago to not do so.

Their current contracts limit their ability to change their sales methods, although some have attempted direct-sales models on and off (Saturn, Scion, etc).

And yes, you can buy vehicles at Tesla stores. That's the major difference between a showroom and a delivery center.

Contracts and State laws do restrict the sales. So no, they can't

Tesla does not sale from the store. When you buy a car, a sales associate is happy to walk you up to their computers and help you through the process.

Tesla has
  • Stores and Galleries
  • Service Centers
  • Delivery Centers
  • Self-Service Demo Drive locations

The difference between a Store and Delivery center is exactly as it indicated.
  • The Delivery centers have NO CARS to show to users. The only inventory that they have is allocated.
  • A Store/Gallery does not have customer owned are allocated vehicles.

I've got a Delivery Center and Service center near me. They will not show you cars. If you are not picking up a car or have one in the shop, they will inform you of where you can go to see them.

In no case, do they accept your order.

I've heard many times people come in and try to buy a car, only to be informed that "We do not sale cars here, but we will happily help you through the steps to create an account and order a car online"

If you have an example showing me incorrect, I'd love to see it.

Even when picking up a car, the Delivery people are mostly just "facilitators." That's why you can do EVERYTING online. And my Neice recently did that, no human interaction when picking her Model Y.

When Elon recently suggested a streamlining of the purchase process, I think that pickups like my Niece was part of that. And I dare say that the Store Associates will be cut to the bone as well...

Welcome to Tesla

They already exist in some store (but deactivated).

Now the difference between a Store and a Gallery slightly baffles me. But I think that Malls have Galleries whereas stores are standalone or combined with other functions.

So, galleries were where they just show you things, but you have to go online and order.

Delivery Centers do deliveries. Some of them even have stock!

As you said, some state laws limit this - and Tesla does mix and match. Like, the gallery where I saw my first Model S in Beaverton, OR is now a delivery center as well. And lots os service centers are also delivery centers. But the old dealerships they bought in the Bay Area are all delivery centers, though they were originally also sevice centers, they moved that stuff to cheaper industrial space.

So yeah, it gets complex. The same laws that make Tesla jump through hoops makes the other companies jump through hoops - but the biggest impediment to them selling direct is their contractual obligations.

I live out here in the West where we don't have protectionist laws requiring dealerships. Heck, we even let you send alcohol in the mail and use THC.

Out here, there's no difference between a dealership and a Tesla store.

Elon responded…

“There were no injuries or accidents because of this. We are just being very cautious,” Musk wrote in his post.”

“Tesla Cybertruck customers on social media platform X have observed that deliveries are now resuming for the all-electric pickup truck. VINs are reportedly being assigned, delivery dates are reportedly being updated, and some customers are reportedly receiving updates for their orders. Amidst news of this update, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared some thoughts on the Cybertruck’s accelerator issue.”

I love how Elon addressed the issue without being specific… cautious about what? Give us something! ?

After reading through all this drama, I’m most curious about why Darryl2006 has a strike through his name and is listed as banned ?. I read through the buildup of a meltdown with Crissa, but missed the arc! Such a cliff hanger. We have another Netflix documentary storyline…
I’ve only been reading this thread to find out this exact same thing!!! ???

You have to talk to service team at your delivery center. Sales team doesn’t have access to the new info, only the company wide email that was sent Saturday
I texted my delivery advisor at Long Beach and was ignored today. First time not getting a response from them. ?

You’re reading this independent of post he was responding.

Oh I saw the rest of the posts and I still think it’s vague. “Pedal problem” is pretty generic and non specific is all I implied. Elon gives no further details on the specific problem.
