I’ve only heard of a few instances. But, I also only have limited presence on this forum and web.

I just asked Grok, who supposedly vacuums the web constantly. He’s reporting just four (4) instances. These are not official numbers by any means, only anecdotal evidence. But with all the Tesla hate out there, I’d say if it was occurring in any real number, we’d all be hearing about it from multiple main stream sources.

Grok:

I believe we are somewhere north of 50,000 delivered CT’s now (?). My math (and this is only based on information available to me and my limited information via ), says we are approaching a failure rate of a whopping 0.008%.

@Willinak @ShockAuto
I haven't noticed the problems that you guys are talking about.
After hitting a deer I can confirm the glue on the front panel.
I know a body tech and he stated the glue they use on the front panel is 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive, 08115. I think this only popped off because of the force of the impact.

Here is the datasheet for 08115 :

The mainstream media will have a field day if Tesla is forced to issue a recall on cantrails unfastening while the vehicle is in motion.

I read a report of an owner having their cantrail totally dislodge on the freeway and become a flying hazard to fellow motorists.
Exactly. That’s why I only get my information straight from the source Elon Musk or reliable news sources like X. They have not mentioned any of this. This thread might have been started up by a Elon Musk hater, who knows but this is the best quality built truck in America which is why there are 2 million Reservations waiting to be filled….

Gronk is wrong, while I was getting my trim fixed SC stated this has been a common problem at the Chicago- Naperville SC. He stated he has seen 6 so far..

Expect this to become a bigger problem, especially to us cold birds in the north.

Your literally reading a real person with a CT telling you this is a problem and you assume its a CT hater? Dont be delusional, this is a real problem that needs to be addressed.

I don’t sense Elon or Tesla hate. I love them both and have for years. But I have a critical mind and I think there might be a reason for concern. And I would really like to know if there is an issue. If Tesla just said they are looking into it or that there is no problem with CT in my vin range, I would be satisfied. This is an interesting issue where the CT “insiders” (in my opinion) are trying to voice a concern while the “haters” are silent (so far). How can I tell who is an “insider” and who is a “hater”? I guess I just know it when I see it. And with that, I’ll just see how this plays out. Good luck to all us CT owners.

Well said, I’m a lover not a hater. I’m just waiting for the air to clear on this one. As far as I can tell this is worse than the accelerator pedal.

I sincerely hope it is not a wide spread issue.

If the Chicago SC as reported is a true average (assuming this is not a cold climate specific issue). And every service center is seeing around 6 or so of these failures, than that puts the total closer 1200 instances (assuming a little over 200 SC’s in USA), that puts it closer to a 2.4% failure. Which would absolutely be significant.

Let’s hope it’s no where near that. I do honestly think that we all would be hearing about if it from multiple external sources already (other than this forum), if it was trending even near this level (as I know outlets like Jalopnik and Autopian would be putting it out there full press and in neon letters). Obviously, only Tesla really knows the true number of instances.

Hoping it’s not a big issue, and it is truly isolated.

I guess only time will tell.

It is a poor design decision not to have any type of mechanical fasteners for that trim.
So you admit it's trim and not structural exoskeleton.

Maybe they used structural glue ?

I thought I clearly explained to you in another thread: CT's stainless exterior is a combination of stressed (read structural) panels and some non-structural panels and trim. We are discussing the latter in here.

There are a lot of Turo renters out there that want clicks. This truck is prefect off the factory floor as Elon intended it to be. It’s why we bought the best quality truck in America.

Guaranteed the SC will laugh at you and say “what did you do” or “this is within spec” because they are.
