Cybertruck Stainless Panels are falling off ...Is this a new phenomena?

I've seen complaints about this going back 8 months. Hopefully a redesign is soon.

Yeah, technicial data sheet test setup is
Solvent wipe (MEK/Toluene)
Abraded with P80
Solvent wipe (MEK/Toluene)

In my experience with Steel, a simple abrasion with P80 and cleaning with Methyl Ethyl Keytone doesn't cut it.

Often times and intermediary substance with high absorption is used, such as thin strips of ABS.

Also, the Steel should be sandblasted.

Im sure in whatever lab it is tested in, it shows enormous sheer and tensile strength after curing. I doubt in these test this is done after repeated freeze/thaw cycles and vibration. Most epoxy and adhesives form microscopic cracks in these environments that only show up with an electronic microscope.

All other manufacturers use glue to hold the side of the bed on. Some fender parts, ect. Just an FYI. They don't fall off though.

Funnily enough Starship uses mechanical fastening of the heat tiles to the body of the vehicle.

..cause Starship is reusable...NASA uses glue cause they are going to throw it away when end of it's short life...our tax dollars at work...

Just makes me wonder what the solution is. Probably has something to do with adhesive on stainless.

Hey everyone, I dropped mine off at Service a few days ago and they are going to be fully looking at my truck and deciding what to do as well as reporting back to the engineering team because thank the Tesla engineering team is very interested to see what is going on with this and they’re trying to get as much data as possible.

So most likely, they will be keeping my truck for a while because not only do I have those top trims that fell off, my fenders are also loose as well as my quarter panels and both my front doors have a loud rattle. The doors could be related to a glue issue because the inside casting of the door is glued in spots

There’s also a ton of other issues that they’re looking at as well such as a loud clunk when I turn the wheel at low speeds and it look Like they said they will replace my half shafts for that and I’ve also been having an issue lately where my charge port randomly opens and an issue where my charging stops as well

I just wanna give a huge shout out to Tesla of Burlington, Vermont because they are really trying their best to make sure my truck is fixed

Sounds like you're happy with your local service, that's a big plus to getting problems resolved.

It's interesting to me because adhesive use in all types of vehicles is common, and failure seems relatively low with the number of applications in different climates all around the planet. You would think that the smooth metal surface, expansion properties, etc. are all common potential problems on all types of vehicles...makes me think something else is going on that is causing the bond to fail.

I’m very happy with my local Tesla service center. They always address all of my concerns.I was told by a mechanic that every time you have to do an intervention auto pilot make sure you record and tell them what it’s doing wrong. The more cars that do it at a certain location, the more likely engineers will look at it.

Another owner experienced the exact same phenomenon. He was happy with Tesla service however.

Yesterday I was driving and heard a flapping from the rear passenger side and sure enough the trim piece was falling off from the back side. My truck has now had issues with the front driver, and both rear sides with this trim piece.

My truck is wrapped, so that seems to be a common denominator for whatever reason if its heat, etc I'm not sure.

Hopefully there is a better fix/redesign in the future with an actual screw. Right now I've just used construction adhesive to attach them back and they seem solid again.
