It was annoying to have to keep turning the windshield wipers to "off" constantly (about 3-4 times between supercharger stops) on a perfectly sunny day. Each time the wipers unexpectedly came on, I would press the wiper button on the steering wheel and then see it had reset itself to "auto" on the center display. I would then press the "off" to turn the wiper off to no avail. Sure enough a little later in the same drive the wipers would come on again and I would have to repeat this process. This bug needs to be fixed. If I turn my wipers off I want them to stay off until I decide to turn them on. My original 2013 model S stays off when I select off. I hope Tesla will address this problem. I spoke to another CT owner on the same drive at one supercharger stop and he said he had the same thing happening to him. I have software version 2025.8.7 installed.

I never engaged FSD and the windshield is clean. I did engage cruise control. I don't think and would not want cruise control to have any connection to a desire to have wipers change to auto.

yea autopilot, cruise, FSD, all engage wipers to auto. Pressing the wipe / wash button twice increases speed. I use rainX manual application and also the rainX washer fluid. it handles 99% of my wiping needs.

The glass under the glare shield, behind the rearview mirror where the forward-cameras reside, will collect the greasy "outgassing" gunk and produce a slight haze. Check the camera preview, particularly when there is direct sunlight on the glass. The view is not obstructed per se, but the glare is enough to trigger a cleansing wipe from the computer.

All forms of driver-assist use the cameras, which the computer will try to keep clean.

Same version here and noted on Saturday mine kept going to Auto as well.
I went into service mode and can see on the very bottom leading edge of the FOV in the front wide camera view, a gaseous smidge looking (whitish in color) coming up to the camera area.
When I did it, direct sunlight was not on my camera but I could imaging in more direct sunlight the sensors may think that the windshield is dirty, however I believe it to be from off gassing inside the cabin, therefore the smudges are inside the glass.

I will now attempt the camera cleaning tips or process I’ve seen laid out by Tesla and revert back with any updates as to the phantom auto wiper function.

I have the same problem. There is no glare, no dirty windshield. I don't use any kind of FSD, auto, cruise control, etc.... I'm told its not a cybertruck thing but a tesla thing related to regional state safety requirements across different states/regions in the US... all I know it is a major pain in the @ss.

I've noticed wipers reset to AUTO every time you drive, and every time you engage cruise, auto, or FSD. My trick to turn them off without a dry wipe is the voice command "WIPERS OFF"

like uber said, cruise would cause the wipers to revert to auto. This is expected behavior. Cruise isn’t just cruise anymore, it’s part of autopilot because it includes safety features that use the cameras, such a traffic aware cruise control, that uses the front cameras to detect obstacles. While using these cameras, the vehicle then switches the wipers back to auto to keep the camera vision unobstructed without you having to think about it.

the days of dumb cruise control no longer exist, at least as far a Tesla is concerned. This is not cybertruck specific.

Worst part of owning this truck has been the wiper behavior. The messes is makes in the name of “cleaning so it can see” are insane.

This is a bug. And I don’t care what anyone thinks about it “trying to clean something”, it’s hands down a bug and not a feature. Just yesterday I was in light rain with FSD on. I manually shut the wiper off as a test. It never came on once with drops of water collecting all over the windshield. I was in light traffic so not moving fast enough to have the wind clear the water. FSD just shut down and gave up. No wipe no warning just red screens and a note that said camera obstructed. It didn’t try to wipe water. Basic water.

This is a bug and Tesla should at the very least acknowledge it and just give us back control of the wiper for now. It smears salt over the camera in the winter and now it’s smearing bugs over it in the summer all because of false triggers. It’s insane behavior and they needed to address it months ago.

This happened to me for the first time today. (it always comes on when engaging FSD, but never just out of the blue)

The only difference was another driver was in it earlier today as well. Perhaps the settings get crossed?

I would like to have a screen toggle override with a timer setting that would enable me to totally turn the wipers off for a specific amount of drive time when there is no rain expected during a drive to be able to override the reversion to auto when engaging FSD or autopilot.
