I will definitely be watching.

My guess is that's it's a unibody pickup using simple tried and true manufacturing techniques. I predict a small 40-50 kWh battery pack to get around 200 miles of range.

Good guesses. Some first impressions:

- Small two-door, two-seat pickup, 5-foot bed, appears to be unibody.

- Single motor, RWD. 150 miles of range with standard 52.7 kWh battery, 240 miles with optional 84.3 kWh pack.

- Payload 1400 lbs, towing 1000 lbs.

- Can be converted into a five-seat SUV, with either a boxy cap or a sportier hatchback cap. Or open-air kit, can also remove doors. Can be lifted or lowered.

- Has NACS port, charges 20-80% in 30 minutes at L3 charger. No word on Tesla Supercharger access.

- Base configuration has everything required by law, and not much else. Crank windows. No infotainment system, bring your own phone and speakers. But vast array of customization options at extra cost.

- Only one color, gray. However, the vehicle is designed to be easily wrapped with inexpensive kits, starting around $500.

- Base model starts at under $20,000 with incentives. Cost will probably rise quickly as options are added.

It may find a market, but it will be a different market from the CT.

Crank windows LOL umm yeah.

No radio either. This is going to be a major fail. Who wants this? It's got nothing. It's the worst specs ever for a truck.

The <$20,000 base truck has crank windows. If you want power windows, Slate offers them as an option.

If you want an AM/FM or satellite radio, there's probably a place to put it, you'll just have to add it yourself. Plenty of people prefer their own sound systems to the factory systems anyway, which is why there are so many car stereo stores out there.

You start with the barebones <$20,000 base truck and add the options you want, from a huge menu. By the time you're done, the cost will probably be more than $20,000; I doubt that very many people will actually stick with the barebones minimum. How much more remains to be seen (the prices haven't been set yet), but I suspect it will be competitive.

They will sell a ton of these if they can mass produce it just because it's so cheap. You don't realize how desperate people are for cheap, reliable transportation.

Really surprised at how low the payload and towing is though! It's more a cheap car that happens to be in a truck/suv form factor than a truck.

BTW, this same need for cheap transportation will also be displayed once Robotaxi's are everywhere. Most people will probably prefer to own their own car but won't, since it'll become an expensive luxury...

It's $27k, the tax credit takes it to $20k.

The tax credit isn't permanent. $27.5k is a lot for an absolute shit box. No speakers, radio, screen, crank windows is a great deal?

I don't know anyone who would buy it personally.

If the tax credit goes away, and the basic Slate starts at $27,500, then it isn't very competitive with options like a new Ford Maverick, which starts at $27,000 MSRP. Even the lowest Maverick trim is better equipped than a blank Slate.

But as long as we're talking about potential political changes that could affect the cost of vehicles, let's not forget that the Maverick is low-priced because it's Made in Mexico (unlike the Slate, which will be Made in the USA). What happens to the Maverick's pricing if tariffs hit?

IMO, it'll flop. People don't need a new car and most people don't need a pickup. Good used 3-5 year old cars will have far more features than a Blank Slate for the same money. If someone really wanted to go electric, they can find used Model 3s for low $20k without incentives or Bolts/Leafs for ~16k.

I knew i shoulda waited, i just bought a Model 3 Highland.
I think in a year or so this might get cheaper.

When can we expect to be able to test drive this baby?
Also will this still come with the rear bumper underhang???

It appears that RWD production is starting to ramp up in TX.
Apparently deliveries are not yet imminent though. Order page says "Available: Jul-Aug 2025", even when using an Austin zip code to make delivery as close as possible.

Looks like they’ll be selling the L-Track separately. This has been added to some of the accessory pages.

Note: Cybertruck Long Range will require Cybertruck L-Track (sold separately) install for compatibility. Cybertruck L-Track will be available for purchase mid-2025.

I guess we’ll find out exactly how much they saved by not including this.

Let's see how long before Tesla lowers the RWD $69,990 MSRP.

I predict demand will be low for the de-contented RWD trim at $70k.

Order page now says the LR includes “Front cross car daytime running light” and removed any mention of these mystery “signature lamps” from the compare models page.

Sounds like the DRL lightbar is good to go with this trim.
