F=ma. That looks horrible. I hope for a full recovery for the young man.
I can't imagine what that sounded like.

That’s def a strong impact dead on. No substance but at 5 am? Hmmm. Speed was def involved from the damages.
5am could be headed to the gym, early am doesn't always mean substances. As an athlete myself, I can imagine that he is up early and headed to a workout. Certainly, speed appears to be a factor, just based on the impact. Doesn't mean he was on anything. I see so many people nowadays on their phones, looking down etc....

Report: 5-star USC recruit Alijah Arenas involved in serious car crash
https://thescore.com/ncaab/news/3274133

18 year old sent hospital in stable condition and no broken bones, but was subsequently placed into an induced coma for some reason.

Also, the truck somehow burst into flames at the tow yard later. That will get some press.
In some cases where head injuries happen….

A medically induced coma after head trauma is used to protect the brain by reducing its activity and energy demands, allowing it to rest and potentially reduce swelling. This helps minimize further damage, especially when increased intracranial pressure (pressure inside the skull) is a concern. It's a last resort, often used when other methods like medication for swelling or seizure control have failed

Ahh yes. The good old "allegedly"or "reportedy" antic (from the original article).

Everyone in first world countries have 1 (or 2+) smart phones with cameras in their pockets, but this "allegedly burst into flames" thing currently has no verification or proof.

Not saying it did not happen, but without evidence, it isn't confirmed to have happened.

This had to be like an 80 mph hit. If this is a Beast (can't see if that is a tailgate etching or reflection), wouldn't even have taken long for him to get there.

Hope he's gonna be ok ?
The best lessons to learn from are the ones we survive.
I would be 80+. And that hole in the windshield is disturbing.
edit-Is that a hole or shadow on the passenger side of the windshield?

The link is in the article just in case you all missed it. There was fire with the collision right away…why?? And fire was at the front of the car, not battery area.

Driver clearly not right mentally after the collision. That was why he was put in coma afterward. Brain swelling.

Does CT have adequate crumpled zone? Or is this like a shaken egg ?

Even if driven manually, doesn’t the Tesla at least auto braked (fully or partially) if it sees upcoming collision with sidewalk or solid object???

And I am praying that this was not on FSD!

No it translates in to “the vehicle is the problem not the driver, other cars wouldn’t have crashed, only the CyberTruck”. It was carefully worded that way to induce FUD.
Back in the TSLAQ heyday, when Lola Kolodny, Linette Lopez and others led a MSM FUD brigade with weekly hit pieces, the LAT was at the forefront with anti-Tesla "reporting." So, this slant does not surprise me in the least.

Not if someone is pressing the accelerator, no.
That is disappointing ! Even my primitive Ford auto-braked when i back up and about to hit curb/wall…even if my foot on gas pedal.

I can tell you having had a head on Model 3 collision with another car, the front impact to the tire wells is worse than mine, which was combined speed about 50 mph from both cars. This was prob 60+ mph.
I had a head on with a CX5 Mazda....l was in my partner's old Nissan Pulsar without airbag( good or bad?)....l was unconscious for at least 5 minutes
At 56 years of age, l was fit enough to survive.....but only just.
CT probably saved this kid.....let's hope he isn't damaged beyond repair!

I am sure that you can…never tried it…but my truck literally slams the brakes on causing a big jolt and my truck stops.
A Tesla will too, but not in that situation. That's why people can and do get into accidents in all vehicles. People misunderstand what AEB does, in all vehicles. I backed into a fence with my F150 Platinum.
