CT FSD unfortunately does not care about anything smaller than a motorcycle in the road.
Truck tires, small critters, etc does not flinch.

OP...glad you shared this as I was wondering how FSD would act in corner case scenarios. Would a flying piece of trash initiate massive braking from 75mph? How does object size/shape factor into behavior? What if it was a neighbor's small dog? Definitely curious and would love to know what we can expect from FSD.

fSD doesn't react to animals well, even a large deer from experience on regular basis. It seems persons but even at higher speeds would worry about that.

i was going about 45mph in chill mode. It was wet and raining. There were people behind me. I could have took control or braked to avoid the chicken, but I’m not risking a wreck for an animal. Could not feel the impact. I don’t recall even hearing a thud!

I noticed my CT FSD braked for four pigeons walking in the road near a stop sign. As I approached the stop sign the car slowed as the pigeons waddled away, then accelerated towards the stop sign, stopping as NHTSA requires. I was delighted.

1 large deer - MAYBE-PARTIAL
4 waddling pigeons - YES
Single flying chicken - NO

Good stuff to know! Thanks for sharing.

2 wks ago, a wild turkey crossed in front of my Model 3 on FSDv12.6.4. I was going about 45mph, and no, it didn't slow.

Driving my Model Y last week. FSD went around trash which the car in front of me blew up from the road about 3-4 feet high into the air. Very impressive behavior by FSD and exactly what I would have done if I was driving.

Asimov’s three laws say nothing.about chickens so Optimus is just acting per programming.
Imagine if swerved and that somehow caused an accident which then hurt you or another human road user.
It would have really fucked up then.

I agree!! Even if I was not on FSD, I would not have acted any differently! I’m not risking a wreck for an animal.

Exactly, FSD already calculates risk to avoid making situations worse. Physics doesn't care about feelings; if you are going to hit something, then the best thing you can do is try to lessen the damage.

Truck did not flinch or react at all.
was the animal just too small?

Did the incident happen too fast for the truck to react?

I'm driving an AI3 Model Y. Sometimes FSD reacts to squirrels and rabbits, sometimes not. Sometimes it sees deer before I do but not always. It always sees people, bikes and dogs. The most interesting encounter was with a raven on the edge of the road. Upon approach the raven took off flying straight down the road in front of me. The car slowed down and gradually accelerated as the raven picked up speed, keeping a more or less fixed distance until the bird turned right into the tree line. Wish I had kept the video. Nevermore.
