Hi I think this as a word of warning to not have anything in your truck when you take it to the service center. I took it in to get the light bar installed, I had a Milwaukee air compressor in the frunk and when I got it back the battery was missing from it. I messaged the service center and they never responded to what they are going to do. I really don’t care about the value it’s more the principle of the matter. So weird that they would take it.

Yeah that's just straight theft by some probably new worker. I assume they'll go over some footage and can someone.

Devil’s Advocate might suggest that they thought it was part of their tool group?

Those Milwaukee batteries are expensive, though.

I avoid the SC like the MVD. I only go if I have no other choice.

Why? Ethics have gone downhill in America. Our fellow humans simply can’t be trusted anymore. Theft is rampant with porch pirates, theft from stores, CC skimming at gas stations, etc.

Example number one. I am constantly reading stories about stellarship factory oil changes where the technician didn’t bother to change out the oil filter. Nowadays you have to mark the filter with a Sharpie to verify it was changed. Thankfully this is something Tesla owners don’t have to worry about.

Example number two. You order sunglasses over the internet and the box finally arrives. You open it and find a pair of cheap $3 swap meet sunglasses inside the box because an unethical USPS, FedEx, etc. employee has opened your box and stolen your genuine Ray Bans (has actually happened to me).

I bet it was an honest mistake. When I was getting work done at my SC they left some of their Milwaukee tools in my truck. I brought them back in to them. My point being - I think they all use Milwaukee power tools

I'm not blaming it's your fault but never leave valuable stuff inside the truck for service visit.

I don't trust people
Yea, this is true. In 2007 I left a Vicodin prescription in the middle compartment of my Subaru while it was getting body work done. It was gone to the mechanic’s enjoyment.

in 1998 we brought the 48’ Greyhound bus into a shop for serious work being done. The expensive home stereo was gone when we got the vehicle back.

Or the eBay delivery scam where an eBay seller scammer uses a publicly available tracking number being delivered to your zip code, but not your address, to confirm delivery. When you open a dispute, eBay sides with the scammer cause they have information that shows a package was "delivered." That happened to me. Had to do a charge back via CC company. Worse yet, eBay had the gall to state I should have followed their appeals process. Bitched at them cause they shouldn't have sided with a scammer on a well-known scam to begin with.

Yeah, if you ever walk around a service center, of any manufacturer, you'll see vehicles parked, open, not secure at all. Never leave anything worth anything in your car/truck, if you don't want it stolen.

I mentioned this before in another thread, but there is a costco right by my service center that I stopped by right before an appointment. I bought one thing and one thing only--a box of my favorite protein bars. I left them in the trunk and the next day when I went to pick up my car they were gone. I didn't discover it until I got home and went to bring them in. I let the SC know that somebody took a box of my favorite protein bars and I was a little disappointed. No response.

Can you leave sentry mode on while your car is in service? I don't know if they disable it or something but for the future maybe you'd be able to see someone doing this.

I had upgraded stereo and speakers in my Volkswagen camper van years ago / and I took it in for service and when I picked it up the speakers were gone from the doors - the speaker grills were still there covering holes. And the head unit was stolen. The service manager pointed out that the “agreement”I signed said in the fine print that the dealership was not responsible for any damage or parts stolen etc. while the car was on their lot for service. So even parts attached to the car is fair game for theft from a dealership - and as noted before- they never lock the cars on the lot as it is too much work for them to unlock and lock all these cars everyday. Today they might have video to find the thief. So it seems they could give you back four wheels and claim the body missing was not their responsibility….

I’m going to leave a bottle of Vicodin in the truck, but with the pills replaced with laxatives
