ervice request and sent the pic of the new charger part number, asking to have it installed. They accepted it, but they also added a task to install my beast's light bar - which I don't yet want. (I'm hoping there's a revised version in the pipeline that doesn't require gluing it t
I think it might need a little AC vent there to help cool.
Exactly. What is the point of fins inside a closed compartment?

Just got mine replaced. I chomped the bit before seeing negative reviews.

It’s not any better at all. I went from 92% to 91% on a 10 min drive with the case off. My phone was very hot.

How can Tesla engineers accomplish such wild feats and can’t figure out a phone charger. I think it’s something to do with wiring or some other major component because they haven’t been the best but have worked better even in our 21’ model 3.

yeah they also work ok in my S and Y. Tesla screwed up something with the CT phone charger somehow.

I cancelled my swap based on the poor feedback in this thread.

I’ll wait and see if the iPhone 17 Air (or whatever the new thin one will be called) charges any better, haha!!

My local service center technician said since the phone will still be hot after the replacement it will not fix the issue and it will be replaced under “customer pay” not the warranty. They advice Tesla is not replacing them under warranty due to that. The charge on my revised estimate is $212 for the replacement if I choose to.

That's unfortunate. I put in a request through the Tesla app for mobile service to replace it with the new one, they came out 3 days later and replaced it at no charge.

Just had it done yesterday, so I haven't had much of a chance to test it yet, but for the 15 minutes I had my phone on it during a drive yesterday, it worked slightly better than before and didn't overheat. Not conclusive, it used to take about 20 minutes to really heat up my phone, I'll do some actual testing this weekend.

Understanding this may be an anomaly, and YMMV, but I had the same issue: Wireless charging pad overheated (and didn't noticeably charge) both the iPhone and the Android. The iPhone actually shut down from the heat.

But I just received the Cybergearco console set, which includes a rubber cover for the wireless charging pad. With that cover on, the wireless charging works great, no overheating and charges both the iPhone and Android to 100% without issue. I don't pretend to understand why that would help but, for me, it did.

Thanks for posting this. I cancelled my charger swap after reading the negative feedback here.

I ordered this cover to give it a try. $4.49: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCGPXB5B

Tesla mobile service just showed up to replace my phone heater (May '24) with the new heat sink enabled version, I'll report back if it has any effect with an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Before replacement, my phone would overheat within 20 minutes.

UPDATE: I got a chance to test it this morning on a trip to Waffle House, about a 30 minute drive each way.

iPhone 16 Pro Max starting charge: 50%
Charge after 31 minute drive: 57%
Charge after 28 minute return drive: 63%

And the most important bit - my phone did NOT overheat! This is a first, usually 20 minutes in the cradle is enough to cook it until it stops charging.

Phone wasn't even hot to the touch, just very warm (which is normal when wireless charging). I was also using it for Apple Music over bluetooth the entire time.

So far, the upgrade has been totally worth it for me. YMMV

This is without the silicon cover? Does it matter?
And good man with respect to Waffle House. Still my favorite breakfast
