Made an appointment and Tesla messaged back with $275 fee. What’s with the fee during warranty period.

Tesla is fixing these under warranty, so technically (in my mind at least), Tesla is even saying it’s a warranty issue.
I believe they are only replacing the charger as a goodwill gesture, on a case-by-case basis. If so, it's not under warranty, it's goodwill.

Just to mention again, I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max and I experience no overheating on my Cyberbeast's wireless chargers. I guess I'm just lucky?
Do you use a phone case? There are a lot of variables when it comes to wireless charging.

Mine just got replaced and with iphone pro max 16 not as hot as the original version of charger. Also got a silicon cover maybe that helps too but now at least charging and not as hot as before. Took only 20 minutes to swap.

It's either on an SC by SC basis, or they've been instructed not to replace any more of them. I opened my service request the 1st day this revised part was mentioned, but the 1st available appt was June 30th. By then, reports were in that it didn't make any difference for most people and when mobile service showed up, they said they couldn't replace it unless it was entirely non-functioning. It's possible that the addition of the heat sink was enough to address edge cases but not resolve issues with all models of phones. At this point, I just want a way to turn the wireless charger off so I can use that space to hold my phone without it overheating. It seems pretty obvious that it's especially problematic with Apple iPhones, but that doesn't make it any less a design flaw on Tesla's part, since being incompatible with the market share leader makes no sense. It's not specific to Tesla either, since some BMW wireless chargers were actually destroying the NFC sensors on iPhone 15s at launch.

I have a 15 pro max with a case similar to that one and mine overheats and never adds any charge. I haven't tried a 16 pro max on it.
I forgot that I also have a silicone liner for the charging bay. Just a cheap silicone liner from Temu. It may be making some difference?

Final update: Very disappointing to report similar experience to others here, phone still gets really hot, hardly charges at all. After like 10 minutes it finally went up one percent, still unnecessarily hot to the touch in a 68 degree cooled car without much direct sunlight on the device. Why are they even bothering replacing them?
Not sure what a heat sink in a closed compartment was actually going to do. Has anyone trying running with the front cover of the console off?

IIRC this is basically the same reason that the Apple AirPower charging mat was axed. Heat is a problem with wireless charging, even when you place the charging coil in the exact spot. From everything that i've read its amplified when they try to make these mats that add several overlapping coils or expand coverage so the coils align for multiple phones.

So much so that IIRC they were trying to design it to detect and move a single coil internally to mate up with the phone.

Even charging on my pillar mount with the magsafe tends to heat it up quite a bit. At this point I just think of it as a magnetic mount with a trickle charger as a bonus... if i need fast charging, I have a cable ready to go.

Can also confirm that Tesla is still working on this. I had requested a replacement on my last service visit to handle some other issues and was told that Tesla knows there is an issue but hasn't come up with a remedy yet. I will be notified when a new fix is available.

Not sure what a heat sink in a closed compartment was actually going to do. Has anyone trying running with the front cover of the console off?
When I was in the process of hooking up my VapoChill phase-change cooler, I had my cover off for about two days. The reason it was off for that long is that once I removed it I forgot that I had to polish the evaporator head, and the bottom of the magnetic heat sink, to a mirror finish to get the best heat conduction (along with thermal paste application).

Anyway, the open front cover didn't seem to help much. But now with the Vapochill installed, I can also keep a 12 oz can of soda (or beer?) cooled if I lay it transversely across the two charging areas...and it even works if you have phone there....just lay the can across both phones!!! The side benefits of this fix seem endless at this point.

The only downside to this is the phones get so cool, that they frost up with condensation when you try to use them. Frost bite on the cheek is no joke. Be careful!! ?

Guys, the obvious answer to this is an Asetek phase-change Vapochill cooler.
