Updated today, had the option for a hit I think. I just happened to be sitting in the truck waiting on people and opened the app, saw the notification and that was it, a couple clicks and it updated.

So it works randomly?

Good for you because I lost my horn completely with this allegedly successful update as the app was stating…
There is another owner apparently in the same situation but I am curious if anyone found a solution that makes this update successful. I rebooted without sincere. I installed again and again “successfully” yet still no horn at all…

My horn is still a virgin. I'd like to try the "new" firetruck horn sound for myself but I've heard from other places on here that it isn't as loud and I don't like the idea that you can't go back. Why is that anyway? I mean techno marvel, they should have released said update with a toggle. What is the rationale behind making it a permanent mod???

NHTSA rules + the fact that by “upgrading” you’re moving to a speaker generated sound instead of an actual old school hardware based horn (which doesn’t allow for variable sounds).

I also won't to change the sound of my horn because I can't change it back if I don't like it.

Why is that? Sounds ridiculous.

Because I don't know if I will like the sound since people are saying it is not very loud. Since I can't go back to using the regular horn I will not update the sound.

Also, it makes our OG trucks more original and rarer. OG horn forever!

Err, I mean … I encourage everyone who can to please upgrade your horn immediately! The old horn is lame, unbecoming of such a powerful and mighty truck, and I heard that too much exposure to the old horn causes shrinkage!

? did they do it yet?

I don't like the old horn for the truck but I was concerned that the new horn is not as loud

It seems to be much like everything these days more subjective, than anything.

Some folks have expressed regret and say that it isn’t as loud and is often confusing to other motorists and pedestrians and then those folks are routinely shouted down by ppl who are adamant that it’s very macho and causes women’s dresses to fly of simply because of the volume of air displaced when deployed.

I had a chance to experience it when a had a ‘24 FS AWD loaner some months back for two days and while I think it’s fine, I’m confident that the old horn is more effective if not objectively louder. Higher frequencies carry more energy in the bandwidths that gets our attention. Fire trucks often have to be supplemented with “rumblers” for this reason.

Human hearing is most sensitive in the mid-range; a tone around 500 Hz is instantly recognisable because it matches the pitch we instinctively associate with distress sounds such as crying. Designers therefore select 400 / 500 Hz for horns so the blast cuts through ambient noise and exploits that same innate alert reflex.

The “super horn” (which is the official name of the new cybertruck horn) is 250 Hz from what I can find.

Beyond and despite these facts, opinions vary wildly and are surprisingly passionate.

For me practical and puritanical reasons counsel against. If they ever make it reversible (or customizable again), I’d likely do it. If I can have La Cucaracha as a horn, I’m gonna have La Cucaracha — it’s basically a law. ??
