Nothing speaks more about how tough the Cybertruck is built than the US military wanting to use it to test munitions on.

Tesla Cybertrucks Wanted By Air Force As Missile Targets
The Air Force says enemies may use Cybertrucks in the future, so its Test Center needs to add them to its live fire target fleet.

The U.S. Air Force is looking to buy two Tesla Cybertrucks for use as targets for precision munitions during testing and training. The service says it needs these vehicles for this purpose specifically because of the prospect of unspecified adversaries driving around in them in the future.

“On 13 February 2025, market research was conducted to assess the competition for the Tesla Cybertruck by evaluating its design, materials, impact resistance, and innovative technologies. The study revealed that the Cybertruck’s aggressively angular and futuristic design, paired with its unpainted stainless steel exoskeleton, sets it apart from competitors typically using painted steel or aluminum bodies,” the justification document explains. “Additionally, its 48V electrical architecture provides superior power and efficiency, a feature that rivals are only beginning to develop. Extensive internet searches and industry outreach by [redacted] found no vehicles with features comparable to those of the Cybertruck.”

More importantly, “[redacted] intends to uses [sic] specific Tesla manufactured vehicles for target vehicle training flight test events. In the operating theatre it is likely the type of vehicles used by the enemy may transition to Tesla Cyber trucks [sic] as they have been found not to receive the normal extent of damage expected upon major impact,” it adds. “Testing needs to mirror real world situations. The intent of the training is to prep the units for operations by simulating scenarios as closely as possible to the real world situations.”

This shows how the federal government wastes our tax dollars. Rather than using common sense, they have to do a study costing millions of dollars that will not make our military any more effective. If the munitions they currently use on existing vehicles are so marginal that they won't work on the Cybertruck, then they just need to make sure to use a munition with a bit more energy. Obviously the Cybertruck is a little tougher than a Toyota or Nissan truck that many militaries use, but nowhere near as tough as an armored personnel carrier.

We need to reign in wasteful spending by federal agencies.

If this is true it shows some backward thinking individuals running the military. A drone carrying the correct munitions would disable a cyber truck easily. Blowing one up for a dog and pony show is bad for the environment and pocket book. They would already be on a procurement list if it was anything it hype.

Look at it this way - could be a good use for some of the early model buybacks Tesla did :)

Probably wouldn't use a functional Cybertruck AND you don't want to use too much explosive... sometimes, there may be basically no explosive...
It's far cheaper to ensure you are using the least explosive to get the job done with the least collateral damage than just chunking big boys at them every time...

I don't think most people appreciate the level of detail they will capture during a test like this. Does anyone know the thermal heat signature that the truck emits during daytime/mid-day/night time? How about when idle for a few hours? After driving for 6?

Will the battery pack erupt when hit with standard troop transport/convoy cluster munitions? If so, what's the probability that it does? How far can you see the smoke cloud? How long does it burn?

Are there ways to mask thermal and IR signatures with netting and other means? How easy is it to spot the truck with the naked eye from the air? How about when you spray-paint it?

How electronically noisy is the truck when powered on? How about powered off?

I could go for hours lol. Maybe we will be privy to some of these tests if we are lucky.

(p.s. - did you know our military has tech that can identify, target, and relay real-time info on specific make/model/color vehicles via an identification database that gets continually updated for worldwide operations? So it's possible to throw all kinds of vehicles up in the air and someone can tell the system: "find me a white sprinter van in the AO")

You don't have to sell me on it.

they have been found not to receive the normal extent of damage expected upon major impact
And that's why I put my family in one.

Maybe a couple of the negative posters on this board would donate their personal CT that they hate and get a nice tax write off!
