Anyone know what this is for? Diagnostics perhaps?

Is that the area with the telematics module? Could be diagnostic connector for the modem…

Thats the port they utilize for the Ethernet Bus (High Speed Data BUS).

Parts Catalog

Don't plug anything into it - unless you want to brick your vehicle. This Ethernet loop is NOT forgiving to foreign objects as the CAN bus is on other models.

Nah, that's the TCU which isn't an Etherloop node (but does have a 2 wire Ethernet connection)
The Ethersnoop diagnostic port is an RJ45 by the MCU and not in the safety critical main backbone.

What are telematics? And why do they need a control unit? Also, what in the world is an ethersnoop etherloop node?
Asking for a friend.

Telematics module: handles.the cellular (and wifi?) connectivity
Etherloop: the main high speed digital backbone of Cybertruck . It it 2 wire automotive Ethernet and runs in a ring/loop so, even if a link is broken, all modules can still communicate .
Left <-> MCU - FSD - Right - Rear <-> Left

Ethersnoop: the diagnostic connector to watch Etherloop traffic, fed from MCU/Gateway

Thank you. My friend says he’s very grateful.

Also, it quite possibly could be used as a tap for retrofitting digital mirrors 😉 (something I was really hoping the truck would launch with).

So after an extended nightmare adventure lasting months with the s92 mirror, the best source for these seems to be the powerfeed that has a clip on the drivers side inside the autopilot camera housing.
would be cool to use something that didn’t require an extra little harness or soldering though.

Mongo, do whatever you want playing around with this port.

There are 3 CT's here in the service center due to a few people playing around with it. $3.5k each one so far. The internal Steer-by-wire unit is dead on each occasion.

Opens are rarely a risk on a loop. However short it out with a cheap amazon micro phone cable if you want - play at your own risk. If your steering wheel goes limp after a short to this port - please don't' try to fix/reverse it.

Please 3rd party vendors - leave this port alone and continue to use the data/power port behind the lower passenger's kick panel. - Its safe to both opens and shorts and good for data snooping.

But - do what you want.

Took off both mirrors a few months ago for a trial period but decided I don't need them. They block vision IMO. It sure looks better,
