Dumb question maybe because it’s supposed to be able to take up to 48v, but that’s the upper limit for the mini. Should I be worried about over voltage damaging the Starlink if I hook up directly to frunk feed?

I wanted a clean way to mount my starlink mini on the roof rack without having to run a cable into the bed. I found this adapter on Amazon and cut it to expose the wires and kept the male end as a water proof plug when the cable is not utilized.

I then stripped down the roof power feeds and connected. Black to outside wire negative and red to inside wire positive.

Got it powered on with the roof power button from inside and all working as expected!

Just gotta heat shrink and tape to button it all up!

Got it all cleaned up and tucked away under the @Urander rack

I was debating the inside suction cup but a few things had me go with the external mount
  • Was reading a few instances of it not holding up very well and falling off. Maybe unless you went with the industrial strength ones.
  • I have the roof sun shade which prevents this option without taking that down.
  • There was some post about how much emf the thing gives off and I’m usually traveling with the kids so just an extra concern there.
  • Maybe I’ll get faster speeds with direct line of sight?

So people actually do this. I feel like I would have heard by now if it’s an issue.
I’m going to split the frunk feed to my 220w solar input on the river 2 pro and the Starlink. Really no reason to run down the power station with it. Anyone see an issue with that?

Let everyone know how this goes. I’m always looking for a better solution than what I have now (crossbars over the bed with cable running to bed outlets). I’d much rather have the crossbars over the roof so the bed is accessible, but there’s no great solution I’ve found to power it. The lightbar feed is covered by the crossbar and running the cable through the window is doable but impractical.

400 watt 48 volt >>> (1) River Pro solar input (100 watts?) and (2) Starlink Mini (can’t be more than 150-175 watts, right?

My Starlink Performance dish is 48 volts. It’s power supply and router don’t pull more than 200 watts and are usually pulling 100-150 watts.

I think you’d be good! And if you don’t want to share wattage between devices you can always add a switch.

The voltage ranges don't match Cybertruck goes higher than official mini range), but based on mini teardown, it will likely work fine.

That’s exactly why I was worried. The river 2 pro pulls 220w max and Starlink mini can be powered with a 100wPD usb-c so 320w max is plenty of headroom from 400w I think.
It’s also an electronic fuse so if by strange occurrence there was a spike…whatever.
Just didn’t want to fry my mini with voltage. I like my Starlink more gooey than crispy.

Worst case, the Cybertruck would be fine, mini... not so much...
Plenty of power available .

You are using the river 2 pro solar input to charge it on 48V I take it? The spec is a little unclear, says 13A 11-50V, 220W so I guess it uses only a max of 220W i.e. at 48V that is 4.5A. The 48V feed is good for 400W and the Starlink is just 60W so you're not overloading anything by sharing/splitting between these two.

Where are you planning to put the starlink? If on a roof rack would the roof power feed not be easier?

Roof feed already has the lightbar and so powering it from there is more finicky. Turn bar on, but at 0% brightness.

Yes Starlink mini runs great on 48v I run mine from my power feed it loves 48vdc another Cybertruck secret benefit spread the word
