We're soon coming up on the two-year anniversary since the production release of the Cybertruck. After four long years of waiting, during which the world tilted sideways, that iconic event held millions of us in its thrall.

That reveal held an almost rapturous joy in what the Cybertruck had become, bringing technologies and features few of us had imagined. But, then, at the end, it bludgeoned us with the shock of how the price had, likewise, grown wings.

Most of us bailed at that point. $100K for the cheap version wasn't a bridge too far. It was a different dimension altogether.

Me, I needed a truck. I wandered back to the ICE world and spent months researching what my options might be, bookended by the Ford Maverick on one end and the Ford F-150 Raptor on the other. The singular takeaway was that everything - literally everything - cost way more than it used to.

And so when that long-awaited (and somewhat dreaded) email from Tesla arrived, I reversed course once again, walking numbly into that new dimension.

It was a decision I have never once regretted.

But, yeah, we still hear frequent comments complaining about how much the Cybertruck costs. Here's a quick little video from the ICE world that maybe puts that in perspective a little.

I waited and paid $72,500. A Tundra TRD Pro is $72,565. Yes, a base shitbox Tundra SR is $41,000, but that's not even remotely equivalent. The price isn't crazy in this market. They might have to adjust for losing the tax rebate though.

It's a convincing price actually. Every time I priced a competitor, if you can even call them that, whether ICE or electric, the cybertruck wasn't too far off. To me the uniqueness of it justified a slight bump anyway.

The Scout truck looks promising, but will be $60000 if not higher, and has a lot of unknowns including a couple years to market.

29k+ miles and other than charging, all I've done maintenance-wise is rotated tires a few times, changed the windshield wiper blade, and refilled the washer fluid.

Recall for original wiper, sail appliques, and an un-bonded tonneau cover gasket was replaced free under warranty.

fin.

No other full size truck has such little day-to-day maintenance.

Zero regrets. Just wish the Karens would leave me alone. Rarely see them anymore, but boy-oh-boy do they go out of their way to make sure I do when they're out and about.

This may sound irresponsible to you guys but my experience with high quality value items over the years has been that the price is forgotten long before the experience of ownership.

Within reason I almost always prefer to not cheap out on purchases and get what I think is the best possible tool for the job.

If you’re on this site you already clearly know this is the case for the Cybertruck

I have a 2024 Beast and am never going back to ICE trucks, Tesla now has a luxe package for the beast that includes FREE SUPER CHARGING for the life of the truck, can you image GM, Ford, RAM offering free GAS for the life of the truck, my 2014 Tundra use to burn $1,000 a month on gas, you have to be nuts not to buy a beast, and obtw, my beast is my seventh and last truck, previous six were all 4x4s since 1979, with way over 1m miles total. I pity anyone buying a new GAS/DIESEL truck these days.

Its pretty true actually.. A good portion of people who buy pickup trucks don't want a $100k + luxury vehicle that happens to have a pickup bed. They want 4 wheels, an engine, A/C & Heat and maybe a radio because they know they are going to beat the piss out of it.

Our family has never had a "nice" car. We agonized for months over the Cybertruck. We finally took the plunge and I think you nailed it. For us enjoying it has way overshadowed the costs.

Interesting thoughts. I'm currently trying to decide between trying to order another cybertruck or just buying a F150 Raptor. My first cybertruck delivery was rejected due to damage, and a new one was a month out so I ended up canceling the order.

Now stuck trying to decide do I place another cybertruck order for the 0% financing or just hold off. For reference I don't qualify for the tax credit.
