100% agree. Having experienced this, its absolutely a huge safety concern.

Has anyone made a service request along these (poor visibility w/ falling snow) lines?

I've had mine since June, no snowy encounters for me. Yet. Absolutely will be. Hopefully sooner than December. I do have duct tape in the frunk, but that would be a less than ideal solution.

Parking lights need not be amber

DRL are not required in the US and can use other lights (like low beams often were)
It can be both DRL and parking light. If it isn't the parking light, what forward facing light is?

The bar contains multiple lights.
Combination lights are allowed and a bridging section does not negate the illumination provided at the ends.


Requirements for parking lamp (combinations are allowed, no spacing requirements, 2 lights means photometetry must be met on right and left side.)

It's to ensure the software is updated. You could have chosen not to install it.

The fixed software went live to the public Oct 10. The problem was discovered Oct 1 and verified by Oct 6. So they fixed the potential issue before validating whether it violated the requirements and shipped the update 4 days before filing the recall paperwork on Oct 13th.

I wish they would get the software for the gateway done so I can get PowerShare before my $2500 credit expires!

For comparison with ICE trucks:

- in 2024, CT sales were roughly comparable to the Honda Ridgeline.

- in 2025 (so far) CT sales are lower, below the Ridgeline but roughly comparable to the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

I replaced my Honda Ridgeline with the cybertruck. Why? Once you drive a Tesla you dont want any thing else

Yes, I have, at least twice since early January. The second time I requested that the frunk light bar be disabled if they couldn't otherwise solve the problem. Of course, nothing happened.

I wrote about it here soon after a really terrible drive resulting from the issue. That copy/paste EV "news" site (Torque News or something like that) used my post for their "article" and it got a fair bit of exposure. But again, Tesla did nothing.

It's very disappointing. Tesla is supposed to be all about safety, but they've ignored what I see as a serious concern (albeit a bit of a corner case), without even a comment. If it results in a death, I'm confident the legal costs, ultimate payout and anti-Tesla news coverage would cost much more than simply adding a firmware tweak.

Did some testing today. The DRL mode (lights in auto, daytime, truck in drive) is brighter than when in Park with Parking lights on or headlights in ON (or auto at night).
This might yield an improvement in snow over the old behavior.

Since the light bar is also the parking lights, they can't fully disable it. However, they could potentially also turn off the middle segments which might help a little more.

I think they thought they'd be selling 250,000 of these a year, and instead, it's been more like 50,000 right now. Therefore, it's in the S/X range, except there haven't been years of them being produced, so it's literally the lowest vehicle count Model Tesla has. Their resources are spent accordingly. This should change sometime next year though, as I estimate once "unsupervised" Self-Driving is released (even if it's just on highways), demand for ALL Tesla will go through the roof and they'll be producing 250,000 Cybertrucks per year!
