Funny / not funny. Since my update in October (almost) no work has (visibly) progressed at the new Campbell super charger site. Last week for the first time they did work on a trench to a power pole, but then it stopped again.
Only a few stalls have the “EV charging” text painted.

Not sure what is holding it up. Is this “as usual” in others experiences?

Bumping this old thread. On my charge stops yesterday at 2 V3+ chargers and 1 V3, I had repeatable behaviour that shows Tesla has tweaked the charge curve. On the first V3+ I plugged in at 9% and ramped to the full 325kW (normally what it does), but it held 325kW to 21% instead of the prior ~17%. From there it started the move down. It went below 250kW at 32%, 200kw at 37% and 150kW at 49%. These are basically ~3-5% further out than the last charge curve (most are close to 4%). Had to do a deep charge on the V3 and it was over 115kW at 65% and 80% was a touch over 100kW. This was a 9-80% charge that took 33 minutes (Tesla rounds and I didn't time myself not knowing it changed). My second V3+ I plugged in at 15% and it hit the same marks through 50%. On the V3, I plugged in at 35% and there was a very brief 250kW and 200kW at 38% then it pretty much hit the same path as prior... 90% was 85kW too. I take this more as a quick boost to the curve than a real change.

TLDR, Tesla clearly isn't done with the curve and quietly made an improvement. Only a minute or two better 10-80%, but a continual chipping away at the time (the same playbook as the V3/Model 3 rollout). 65-90% was a low bar, but there is a pretty dramatic increase compared to the initial V3+ curve. Still not worth staying at chargers if you don't need to.
Another bump. Held 250 to 34% 200 to 39% and 150 to 50% this weekend. Still tweaking a tad.

I pulled up some NEW BLACK super chargers. Technicians were working.
I asked. 500? Yes. I plugged in CT. Still took hour to fill up to 300+ miles.
Once it passed 200 miles it went into same SLOW charge mode. Down to 50. 40. 30 kw. The BMS monitors pack temp. It slows charging as pack gets hotter.

The V4 is a 1,2 MW 1,000V system, so I was wondering if you noticed any difference when charging the whole battery under 800+ V compared to the 400V split battery mode.

There is an interesting video from "Out of Spec Testing" about using a new V4 with a CT:


Basically, the 500 kW was only available up to 6% and thereafter
the charging was a similar to a 400V V3 charger.

Voltage makes a difference. Higher volts, means less amps... which means handle/port temps don't throttle. Standard V3s will throttle due to amperage rather quickly. V3+ throttle, but takes a lot longer. To get >325kW with the CT, you have to use an 800v capable charger.

FYI this was the first 500kW curve. It keeps changing, and has changed at least twice since they tested. That said, unless you're below ~12%, a V3+ (325kW) charger will charge just about as fast. There are some handle temp issues that'll creep in, but we're talking maybe a minute to 60%.

The 70+% rate seems very thermally dependent. I don't have enough charges up top to confirm that, but really seems that is the primary difference in getting an extra 10-20kW up top.

Update on the original post, the Supercharger in Campbell, CA.

First post about it on 9/27/2025
Today 4/9/2026 it is finally open.

Yesterday there were still Tesla Energy workers busy, with many of the cabinets open, but today the first cars were charging. And then when I checked, the location showed up in the chargers map. 500kW max.

Have not tried it, as I really have no need, since I charge at home. And no free lifetime supercharging for me. But I might next time I arrive home from a long trip (this charger is one mile from y home) just for the sake of it and see how fast it really is.
