To see if orders have increased I just opened the order page for the $59,990 Cybertruck. The lead times have been extended from the beginning of summer to fall. It now states September - October 2026.

The Premium model states a 5-7 week lead time.

Serious question as I have been out of the loop for quite some time. Why is there a wait time for the regular AWD? I thought they had trouble moving them and couldn't keep the factory busy?

If they can keep the production line going (at least a full shift), AND they can make a modest profit, that's what they will do. These first 10 days where to unload the failed rear wheel drive only's extra parts, which had no place to be used, and was dead inventory. they will get out their spread sheets and pencils and figure out if they are making anything on this model. with the new lower cost 4680's with the dry cathode process, it is likely they are making a small profit.
They are also probably figuring and banking on FSD and Premium Connectivity Subscriptions as well.

The RWD truck was $72K and had a bunch of stripped features even the motorized tonneau cover and bed outlets. It was overpriced and severely discontented. Tesla did not sell many. This new trim has AWD, been outlets, and motorized tonneau. All for $60K. Price is almost too good to be true.

To put it into perspective, it's only $1500 more than a Model Y Performance.

No im asking why the fully loaded AWD model has a waiting period. I was under the impression dealer lots were full due to low demand

Two developments of note in recent quarters.

First, Tesla cut back on production of the expensive models (Model S, Model X, Cybertruck) last year, to bring production into alignment with the relatively low demand. In Q4 2025, they only produced 11,406 of the expensive "Other Models", which was pretty well matched with the 11,642 deliveries.

It's true that Tesla initially overestimated the demand for CTs and overproduced, resulting in high inventory on store lots. But that's in the past, they have since made the necessary adjustments. If anything, they may have cut production too much.

Around half of the 4Q 2025 production/delivery numbers is Cybertrucks, so like 5,000-6,000. This is way below Tesla's reported Cybertruck production capacity, which is over 30,000 per quarter. Seems possible that many of the CT production lines have been mothballed, and in that case, they may not be available to address short-term spikes in demand.

Second, Tesla has been introducing the CT to new international markets recently, including South Korea in 4Q 2025, United Arab Emirates in 1Q 2026, and Saudi Arabia and Qatar coming up. Seems possible that a significant part of the recent production has been designated for export, leaving US customers waiting.

Tesla doesn't usually store much inventory at their delivery centers.
Premium AWD and Beast are 5-7 weeks to Michigan.

Are the current delivery dates out to September now? Saw someone on Reddit posting when they placed their order just now.

I plan to place my order near the end of the 10 day window. I will be trading in my MY and while I was a day two preorder holder, I did get it refunded last year due to the pricing. Now I’m happy to wait as long as possible to receive this one as I’m not really in a hurry to replace my MY, but I don’t think I should let this opportunity pass. Be waiting to order a few more days I’m hoping to push back my delivery. A little extra patience and a bit of a gamble maybe.

Then im glad I put the order in quick. I was thinking what's the hurry, i have 10 days to think it over and I don't really need another vehicle anyway. Then I saw a post I believe by mini here on the forum saying his delivery is June. That's what prompted me to quickly place the order.

Honestly even june is a long time to wait, so yeah, im glad im not staring at october. Im somewhat hoping that mine will be built before June.

same. June. At least when I placed the order.

Is there a place to check in the app, etc if that changes? I don’t see any dates.

My location says Sept-Oct. It’ll vary a bit by delivery logistics. Then if demand is beyond what they thought, it’ll be in how they can replenish the supply of the various different parts. Which is probably the reason for the jump from July to Sept.

Lately Tesla hasn’t been maxing out a single shift of production. If this move maxes that out, it’ll stay but the cost probably goes up a bit. If demand allows a 2nd shift, we could see the price stay close to the same. I have doubts it will do that, but I’d love to see it.
