I wonder if Ford discontinuing the Lightning had anything to do with this too. Tesla has a good chance to have the best selling EV truck now. Taking the lead in a small race but at least it would be #1 where they have been with the cars.

If they can keep the production line going (at least a full shift), AND they can make a modest profit, that's what they will do. These first 10 days where to unload the failed rear wheel drive only's extra parts, which had no place to be used, and was dead inventory. they will get out their spread sheets and pencils and figure out if they are making anything on this model. with the new lower cost 4680's with the dry cathode process, it is likely they are making a small profit.
It's perplexing how tesla brass thought it was a sound idea to bring the RWD into market at the price point they chose. Im no expert but I could easily tell that was not going to work. The regular AWD was a better bang for the buck and that was already sluggish on sales.

I kind of felt like the RWD was a ploy to make the AWD more attractive. Make it a little less but not too much lower so people would choose AWD where the profit was. But now with this I have no idea what they are doing. This will take lots of sales from the 80k AWD.

Its volume… take a cut on each individual vehicle to make more as a whole with a more utilized line. They are testing out the elasticity in real time and seeing if 60k can get them the volume needed to make it worth it. If it doesn’t, they can fall back to what they have done for a year or so. If it does, then the premium AWD will end up with a price cut. Partially on a line being better utilized and a lower cost, partially to make it more attractive to stretch.

Just ordered. ETA: Sep–Oct 2026 🥴

I’ve had a Scout reservation since day 1, but between the delays and this deal, the Cybertruck was too hard to pass up. My wheel debate lasted way too long... Looks like I earned a 60–90 day “thinking about it” penalty for that alone. Went Core so those can become my winter set when Indiana does its annual thing.

Likely keeping my old H2. The Gladiator… this is probably our last topless summer together. Mixed feelings, but it’s time💪

exactly. Raise the entry model to $65K, lower the "Full AWD" model to $75K, now the difference is $10K for the Air Suspension, better stereo system, outlets in the cab, smuglers bay, fancier brake lights, etc.

CyberWalrus posted a thread about the RWD and said he found no problems himself with the stereo.
Try this: On your audio settings, drag your SUB slider all the way down until it says Mute. Go for a drive.

I tried this morning, and it was very much lacking. I absolutely could not enjoy music this way. BUT if you now drag your BASS slider up to 6.5, I'd say it sounds pretty close. Although it's almost maxed out now. But now the door also rattles a bit sometimes. Maybe they have it tuned a similar way for RWD and the upcoming AWD.

And, if I'm not mistaken, RWD also has the rear door speakers deleted. Hopefully @CyberWalrus can chime in. If so, seems like all 7-speakers are located forward of the B-pillar.

Still, I think $60k is a great value. Don't forget to use your buddy's referral link for $1,000 discount folks.

My friend we are very similar. Had a scout reservation and the latest information about the delay caused me to start rethinking what I might like and then the news about the CT price drop happened. I’m selling my Gladiator this week since I’m getting a much better offer from a local dealer than from Tesla.

Looking fwd to the CT, but will miss trading the jeep wave for a few 🐦🖕.

I'm part of the Cybertruck/Scout Terra/Jeep Gladiator trifecta. Must be something unique about the styling of those vehicles some of us are after. Only owned the CT but the others were serious or potential contenders.

The Cybertruck won for me due to a few reasons.

It is strange, I’m part of the jeep wrangler, gladiator and raptor crew myself

Now with AWD CT and love it but got an older JK wrangler to wrench on and topless in the summer……it’s great but also reminds me how much is needed on ICE vehicles…..85k miles and already needed radiator, hvac actuator, axle seal, oil cooler…..mopar
