My SA out in Washington told me they had 9 orders on the first day from lurkers or people they had talked to in the past.

To me these are people that know the product. Purely price discovery for them. Hit the number. Trigger pulled.

I hope the price sticks around. This is what is needed to keep the electrification dream alive. $48k is a base F-150 4x4 supercrew. Got a ways to go.

Agreed if demand is there, they just might sell a few of these.

$39k, $49k, and $69k and there might have already been a million on the road today.

Write your plan, and stick to the plan!

Sure, but the waiting game was getting a little long in the tooth. I think releasing the product was more important than hitting the numbers. One might say in hindsight Tesla still wouldn't hit those numbers today or ever. Tesla changed the way it approached range and supercharging during that period.

So I would say the contact with the enemy was time. So the plan had to change or some might think the product was vaporware. Kind of like the Roadster. One can only send out so many silhouettes before people start seeing ghosts like Sam Darnold.

It is strange, I’m part of the jeep wrangler, gladiator and raptor crew myself

Now with AWD CT and love it but got an older JK wrangler to wrench on and topless in the summer……it’s great but also reminds me how much is needed on ICE vehicles…..85k miles and already needed radiator, hvac actuator, axle seal, oil cooler…..mopar

Its volume… take a cut on each individual vehicle to make more as a whole with a more utilized line. They are testing out the elasticity in real time and seeing if 60k can get them the volume needed to make it worth it. If it doesn’t, they can fall back to what they have done for a year or so. If it does, then the premium AWD will end up with a price cut. Partially on a line being better utilized and a lower cost, partially to make it more attractive to stretch.
Agree, counterintuitively the higher the demand the higher the chances of the price not increasing.

Also, as others have already mentioned, the $70k RWD was likely a marketing decoy to make the Premium AWD appear like a better deal.

Lots of commentary here dismissing the value of AWD/Beast air suspension. Everyone’s needs are different, but for me the air suspension is a game-changer, worth the whole price difference. The first is specific to my use, the other for everyone:

1) I have nine trailers parked behind my barn on what we call “trailer row.” All of the trailers are set up so that the hitch ball cup is about “medium” clearance level for the CT’s suspension. With no assistant my normal procedure is to drive the CT’s hitch under the trailer, switch to off-road mode and hit “extract”. The truck raises and picks up the trailer. I don’t have to crank the trailer jack at all. I simply put the truck in park, go back, complete the hitch lock, chain, and electrical connection, put the suspension back into medium height, and drive away. No other truck I’ve owned can do this.

2) As important for my 5’2” wife is the automatic Entry mode. Having a relatively tall vehicle with the ability to kneel for short drivers and passengers is priceless. You do not get this with the new model. It’s not a small deal. With this feature my wife does not miss having the deployable running boards that have been on our last eight Ford pickups - she much prefers being able to jump right in and out. In entry, it’s way lower than a minivan, not quite as low as a sedan, but easy entry - the only thing about it that she hates is that I sometimes forget to put the CT in Park when dropping her off, so the truck stays at medium height and she nearly falls when exiting - I try to remember, but when at a store curb, with traffic and pedestrians, it is sometimes tough to hit screen keystrokes fast enough.

This is going to be the best deal on a CT for a while. The previous fire sale was last September. I'm wondering what delayed spike we see from these at delivery time, Q2 and Q3 could look pretty good.

It's perplexing how tesla brass thought it was a sound idea to bring the RWD into market at the price point they chose. Im no expert but I could easily tell that was not going to work. The regular AWD was a better bang for the buck and that was already sluggish on sales.
The released AWD was 60% more expensive than the prices announced at launch. The RWD was even worse, prices being 75% higher. Though at least it got a longer range.

I think all the activity and excitement proves what several of us here have been saying: price matters. The design might be divisive, but if the price and features are right, people will start buying. I think $50K is the true disruptor price in that at that point everyone buying a truck will have to justify why they are not buying a Cybertruck, but $60K is much closer to a true mass market price than $80K (a price level that sells small numbers, regardless of vehicle).

I would be surprised if sales aren't substantially higher at this level. Though, it has to be said, the CEO is still a turnoff for many (just look at 3 and Y sales development).

I wonder what the extended delivery dates from June to September mean. More orders than anticipated? Not enough? Or something else? Having test driven an AWD the last two weeks in California I am eager to resume the experience at the earliest moment.
The question is.
Are these real orders
or are a big % of these people hedging bets and just trying to lock in the $60k price (just in case) or for a FSD transfer lock.

If the later this could be another CT reservation bubble, just like the original reservations.

Hopefully not

The price and features of the new AWD trim are clearly right for customers. The question now is whether the price and features are right for Tesla.

On February 20, Elon announced that the current deal would be available "only for the next 10 days", so Tesla apparently plans to change something by March 2. It could be the price, or it could be the features, or it could even be the availability of the trim itself. We don't know. But it does seem like Tesla is not satisfied with some aspect of the current deal. You have to wonder if it's the price, given that the new AWD trim is priced well below all other CT trims -- even the more stripped-down RWD trim.

It is a matter of production line utilization. The line was built with 250k in mind over 3 shifts. So roughly 83k per. Add in some maintenance downtime and various things you get to 70-75k per shift. If this current price means they can fully utilize the line for a shift, then it is worth it. From there, the price should adjust to maintain that shift (could be up or down). If there was even more demand to add another shift… there is incentive to decrease the price. If that demand is 5-10k over a single shift, the incentive is to increase the price to stabilize around 70-75k.

Given that production now is around 25k, it seems unlikely that this would cause enough of a demand spike to force a second shift. But fully (or nearly) utilizing a single shift could be the goal. What we could see is this model now bumping up to a 50-60k rate then then looking for a new RWD model to fill the rest. Or if this is only another say 5k of demand, then the juice simply isn’t worth the squeeze as it doesn’t fully utilize the line or even close. Then they wipe out the inventory of RWD parts and a call it a day.

App is very limited info. Log into your account from a browser
I placed my order on 21-Feb, and the estimated delivery time when I placed order said June.

I do not see any sort of estimate of delivery date now that I have placed the order in either the app nor when logged into website.

I've never bought a new Tesla before so I don't know -- should I immediately see Pre-Delivery Tasks and so on in the Tesla App?

I can see my RN Number in my app but the only "action" button is a blue button which says "Go to Account". That takes me to website view which shows RN number but no delivery date.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience of what to expect from those who have been through this recently!

I wonder if Ford discontinuing the Lightning had anything to do with this too. Tesla has a good chance to have the best selling EV truck now. Taking the lead in a small race but at least it would be #1 where they have been with the cars.
I almost gave a little ramble on this on the Lightning cancellation thread. I was expecting it. It's just a really Elon thing to do, to lower the price when a competitor gives up. With Ford - and RAM - giving up on a pure EV full size truck because they can't make it work, Tesla dropping the Cybertruck price by 20k is such a middle finger to the inferior rivals.

Per Tesla Sales employee: Do NOT use your old Cybertruck reservation if you want the $1000 loyalty discount. Place a new order and request the $100 reservation refund afterwards. The system locks the promotions at the time of the original reservations. $1000 loyalty for the Cybertruck did not exist back then. (Since it wasn’t even available for purchase I assume)
