So you are saying Tesla is designing FSD to purposefully nullify their top priority? that doesn't make sense.

Tesla moved on from allowing us to set specific speed limits because that type of control doesn't help them train and perfect the context around why people choose to go faster or slower than the speed limit in certain circumstances.

We take for granted how easy it is for us to naturally understand contextual clues on how to behave in the world around us. For a machine, it's obviously a very difficult problem to solve and we are just now starting to enter the "march of 9's" on this specific issue.
Yes, that is what I am saying. Everything about their training is, obviously, intentional (machines do not train themselves). So every behavior is intended. Every time Tesla FSD breaks the speed limit it is putting everyone at increased risk because there are decades of research showing that as speed increases so do injury rates. Tesla ‘says’ that its primary goal is safety but we have to look beyond what they say to what they do. Their ‘hardware’ is super safe, but their ‘software’ isn’t.

I too wish FSD had a setting where you could set the upper speed with a click of a button when you’re on self driving in any mode. This is three points on my license..
It definitely needs work.
Standard will roll well over the speed limit but Mad Max likes to sit at right turns for what seems like 20s
Hopefully 14.3.2 is better because the current version seems like it has some wires crossed.

Radar detector ftw. Uniden R7 in my CT smells tangos up to 2 miles away. Hit that brake when it whistles at ya!

I trust Tesla engineers about safety, and trust they actually know more than our crooked government. Their safety record is very well documented and open source improved upon.

I wish Tesla give us more customization. I like chill but drive the speed limit or sometimes 5mph over. I can’t find a setting where it keeps the car from changing lanes unless it’s to follow the route and drive at the speed limit.

My CT will not drive the speed limit unless it’s on hurry. Anything lower will go under the speed limit by 5 to 10 miles lower than posted signs. On hurry, it will make stupid lane changes like to pass a semi truck when it need to make a right hand turn in less than 1/8 a mile. Why? I almost got rear ended by it.

This seems like the opposite approach they should have taken. If they want to know why people choose what speed they do they should be looking at where the truck is and what is around it when the driver changes speed. NOT just guessing and seeing if the driver intervenes.

This behavior made me turn off FSD altogether and go back to regular cruise control because it was so bad. Now they don't get any data from me because I refuse to be a guinea pig risking my safety and my license.

Until full autonomous driving is both legal and I personally am convinced it works in that capacity I won't be using FSD anymore.

I'm looking at getting another Tesla for my wife but I definitely won't be getting the FSD subscription for her. It is just way too reckless with it's speed choices.

Tesla is 7x more safe than human driving. If going over the speed limit is more dangerous, are we 6x as safe? Enquiring minds want to know

9! Were you in a 25mph zone? Getting a ticket for 9mph over is fairly rare.

I'd love to see a set by mode on FSD. I'd do the following.

Sloth - Speed Limit
Chill - 3 over
Standard - 5 over
Hurry - 7 over
Mad Max - 9 over

That said, one of the biggest problems where I live is it displaying the wrong speed limit to begin with so I constantly have to babysit it.

OK, you seem to have thought about this a lot. What is your conclusion as to WHY Tesla engineers are doing this? <Can’t wait to hear this.>

Cops in Florida have told me their motto is usually “nine you're fine and 10 you're mine”

Bring back the scroll wheel speed set.

There’s a ton of justifying Tesla’s decision to remove the scroll wheel speed set. It’s total BS. Speed profiles are a huge fail- I don’t care about Tesla testing autonomy- they can do that in their own vehicles. I do not want to be a test dummy while their system ‘learns.’

Bring back the scroll wheel speed set.

Speed profiles are dangerous and quite probably illegal- they certainly operate the vehicle illegally on a regular basis. I don’t suppose Tesla offered to pay your speeding fine and hire an attorney to clear your points?

Bring back the scroll wheel speed set.

Again, the speed profiles are dangerous, nerve racking, stupid, require far too much driver input and you still cannot precisely manage speed. The AI certainly cannot manage speed in any safe and legal way, AND IT NEVER WILL because the speed limit data in incorrect in so many locations. It needs a driver override. It had an excellent one in FSD13. ‘Difficult learning’ is no excuse for bad programming and really bad management decisions.

Bring back the scroll wheel speed set.

Speed control works great in FSD13. All the improvements of FSD14 are way overshadowed by the abject failure of speed management in the ludicrous speed profile system. It’s over complicated and broke a working system that did not need improvement. They ‘fixed’ something that wasn’t broken.

Bring back the scroll wheel speed set.
