I have friend who is a member here (@That Beast Mode ) who ordered and paid a deposit on a model x before they stopped production that was just recently told there are no more model x’s to match him with for delivery.
So basically, they took the car they contracted to sell him, painted it shiny red and sold it for $165k to someone else instead.
I love this company as much as the rest of you and lord knows I have supported the hell out of it over the years but they are shitty contract partners. Period.
Self-service that completely pisses in the face of customer loyalty is the only thing they can reliably be counted on to do.
Hard to be disappointed when you know that going in. It’s been their business practice for a long time. It’s not really an accident or one time occurrence.
Can confirm this is 100% accurate, I ordered it before any deadline for ordering and they closed it down. Nothing I can do about it, but somehow they managed to fulfill those expensive shiny red ones. Their deadlines are a complete one way street. I absolutely love their product, but their customer service is for shit. I guess when you make a good product and people keep buying it anyway you can do that shit and people just deal with it.

Awesome. Hope you like it. I still enjoy mine long after the sting of the overpricing is gone.
Whadda you know about overpricing? Mine was a $20k option 😉🤣

Seriously though, automotive level design and production isn't cheap and this doesn't benefit from high volume amortization (yet?).

If the xkglow had the UI capability, I would have purchased it a year ago. The daytime running light makes it so you don't have to cover it when not off-road, at least in Kentucky.

How does that (DRL mode) differ from running the Tesla lightbar at a lower illumination setting?

What would be the allowable additional cost to add Tesla UI support to xkglow?

Yeah. True story but as you say, no UI integration and the design is less than desirable to me even though I’m clearly a sucker for colored lights. You really want to install something that occupies the front mounting points on your roof and renders any accessories like the mars/urander/cybertruckco racks as well as the factory crossbars in over-the-glass position unusable?
It’s also designed in such a way that it produces a long lever arm and there was a guy on here a while back who described so much flex in his that the bar hit the top of the car audibly when going over speed bumps. No bueno. Don’t know if that is true without personal experience, but I found it believable looking at the design.
I do think the pricing is much more rational than say UP stuff and that the lack of need for “gluing” is an advantage , but I don’t see how it’s any better than the other aftermarket products at making it “part of the car”.
To activate it, I believe you turn on the power feed then open an app, pair it, activate it and select a program which also then resets itself once the car turns off. I haven’t used it but it certainly doesn’t sound elegant or “UI controlled” like they pretty much all advertise.
Sounds about as integrated as the Chinese powered rocker steps or glass roof sunshade to me.

Both good points. I never thought of running that bar on low power as a DRL but I’m guessing there is probably a legal reason it’s called a DRL and not a NRL or permanent RL (PRL?). That may not be true on second thoughts because the unibrow light runs both day and night without crossing any legal lines.

You’re probably the most qualified person I know to comment on whether adding UI support is possible and what it’s likely to cost if it is. I seem to remember you doing a lot of very thorough tinkering with that green wire.
Ain’t nobody here going to be able to answer that rhetorical question better than you. 😁

Interestingly, my factory lightbar (I guess beast bar is no longer an appropriate term) has this quirk where if you turn it down low enough below about 10% or so, only one of the ditch lights works. Not always the same one either. Color me confused about that one.

Oh, lighbar is totally not a federally legal DRL nor any other light due to color and height.
States have different treatment of off road lights so was wondering what was up with KY.

Yeah, I can probably reverse engineer the Bluetooth protocol, was wondering what additional price people would pay for UI integration (to compare against my cost to do it).

I’d pay up to $200 if you can do it. That was the only thing holding me back from getting the XK glow. I’m not a fan of drilling holes in the top of the car for the factory light bar. Water ingress scares the shit out of me. And the installation instructors call for the tech to spray anticorrosion paint primer after they drill the holes. Which, from what I’ve heard anecdotally does not seem to be happening consistently in some service centers.

If you think Tesla is bad, try Audi.

I picked up a CPO one-owner 2023 e-tron GT last week with just 13k miles. Took it out to test the brakes last weekend, simulated panic stop from 35mph in an empty parking lot and... it locked up all four tires leaving about 30' of rubber on the pavement. Yes, it was hot, sunny and dry. All four tires are less than a year old.

Dropped it off for service this morning, the SA says "well, that's not normal". No kidding. No loaner, no shuttle, no Uber credits and no ETA. BTW, as I was waiting I heard no fewer than four people complaining about their center screens just dying. Two were there because there vehicles also died - just would not start despite having power.

Grass is always greener. May dump the etron GT at a loss and pick up a new M3P and be done with legacy auto.
