Recent software update includes a completely useless icon in the upper right that indicates air quality. What bozo thought this was a good idea? What are we supposed to do with that information stay in our car? Does anybody know how to hide it?

I would think the bozo might know a few people in the sensitive groups. I sure do. I care about them like I do anyone. Air is important. I think. Actually I am pretty sure it is important.

The “State of the Air” 2024 report finds that despite decades of progress cleaning up air pollution, 39% of people living in America—131.2 million people—still live in places with failing grades for unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution. This is 11.7 million more people breathing unhealthy air compared to last year’s report. https://www.lung.org/research/sota/...ate of the Air,of ozone or particle pollution.

Why is air quality important? Local air quality affects how you live and breathe. Like the weather, it can change from day to day or even hour to hour. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and your local air quality agency have been working to make information about outdoor air quality as easy to find and understand as weather forecasts. A key tool in this effort is the Air Quality Index, or AQI. EPA and local officials use the AQI to provide simple information about your local air quality, how unhealthy air may affect you, and how you can protect your health

I'm dreaming of a world where the APIs to the Infotainment center are released and we can replace the whole thing with a fully customizable open-source UI.

OK, I'll put the bong down now.

Well, you can change your filter and air supply mode, for one.

For two, sometimes you can just wait it out, if it's a dust up, or park somewhere else with less bad air. It'll result in your truck getting less dusty, too.

For three, you can be prepared. Wear your dust mask when appropriate. I always carry mine in the car since we've had all these fires. And this year, the prescribed burn settled in the valley a bit more than usual so there was a week I couldn't work outside without it.

Totally agree, useless shit. WTF are you going to do with it? Not leave your car if the index is too high? Or not drive to the destination? Or not breath? A least weather suggests that I should do something - dress up wormer or not, bring an umbrella, or a coat - to better my comfort.

But this index is sure a magnet for virtue signaling crowd ... :)
Weird. It's kind of like you don't know about these interesting inventions called 'masks' and 'air filters'.

Lol, not sure if you're trolling or not. Let me check..... aight, today I'm wearing a blue N95 mask. Let's see for tomorrow... oohh, high index ... need to pull out my hazmat suit, .... day after ... ohh better, only a respirator should suffice, but always carry a portable air filter
Sure cool "interesting inventions" ?‍♂
Sure?

We have black N95s for professional looking, I have tie-dye ones for usual social spaces, and I use a P100 half-mask when I'm driving in smoke or when I'm working, but weirdly people say it's harder to understand me in it. I don't have trouble understanding without seeing mouthflaps, but whatevs. I used to only carry surgical masks for flu season - who wants to spread it - but all the smoke has me carrying a box of N95s instead.

If there's a high UV index, I raise the amount of SPF from zero, to moisturizer with 15, to 50+ spray every 90 minutes if I'm half naked at the top of a mountain or even more if I'm on the beach/pool or on a boat getting wet.

Like, these numbers are useful.

I dont find AQI particularly interesting/useful - but it's also not hurting anything / displacing anything so not sure what the big deal is.....weather is useful so if that's how they did it (with AQI), then im in.

It has been a feature I have always wanted. It’s red hazard air outside today from the fires and the ozone. It’s good to know what precautions to take. The air is unhealthily. Why would I not want to know that? I guess some people don’t want to know if it‘s raining. It won’t stop them from getting wet. Ignorance is ignorance. Bliss is generally obtained through knowledge. If you don’t like it, then don’t look.

I use AQI to determine if I’m going for a run/bike ride or not.

Yes, I can get that info on the phone weather app, but it’s cool to see it in ‘real time’ as I’m driving home. Neat add on!!

Or Bio Defense Mode.
I guess this dude doesn't breathe like the rest of us?
Maybe he has lungs of steel, or smokes so much his AQI doesn't matter

I love having the AQI displayed on the screen. It is a good indicator of when you should turn on Bioweapon Defense Mode to not breath that dirty air in.

Stop with the dog whistle crap @espresso-drumbeat. It's not really becoming. You are literally making fun of people with a condition called asthma. People that have so many attacks there life expectancy is diminished. They have to move to live sometimes.

I am sure everyone you know is healthy and perfect. Shameful.
