What I'm saying is that even made in batches, every CT that goes out already has 100 people who reserved one who will be offered that one. That's why you see people being asked to configure and then wait. Tesla is waiting for enough people in that area to make it worth delivering. When someone doesn't follow through, it gets offered to the next person available to take delivery. It's not always the next person in line. People have issues with financing, insurance, following instructions, etc.

There are no Cybertrucks at delivery centers that don't have several prior reservists chomping at the bit to pick it up. Nobody can walk in and buy one on the spot.
There are people turning down the option to configure, yes. These aren't order cancellations. A small percentage are.

But almost everyone who opts into configure a AWD, white interior, AT tires gets a VIN almost instantly and typically delivery within 2 weeks (some exceptions in the NE due to transit). It was 4 days for me from e-mail to delivery and it was in Austin. There were 4 other CTs that picked up the same day I did received invites with in the same window.

There were actually 6, one re-schedule and a CB on my delivery day.

Tesla is not like regular dealers. Even most inventory cars aren't at the Tesla showroom ready to be purchased. They are sitting in overflow lots regionally/locally or at the factory or other SCs and when someone opts to buy one, they ship and prepare it. The difference in the CT is that they are staying in Austin or other regional lots (specifically speaking to the AWD, white, AT tires). They aren't inventory cars because there are so few options. Tesla is holding them until they get a request for it and then, yes, shipping them regionally.

Again, you can order one of these today, no reservation, and get it this month...while people wait for CB, Grey interiors, or Core/AS tires.

I think we are close to saying the same thing. Tesla doesn't build to order the way some think. There is no inventory of CTs to buy, but there are available/built or in the process of being built AWD CTs with white interior and AT tires that get matched up almost instantly upon configuration and the delay is shipping groups. If there are 3+ ready for your area and you get a VIN, you can get it in as little as 3 days and that doesn't mean it's a reject.

I think we are almost talking the same thing. I'm saying that the only people getting them now are people who have been on the reservation list already. I don't believe any old joe can walk in off the street, order one, get a VIN and get it delivered.

If that were the case, why the heck would Tesla be making vehicles that their thousands of reservists don't want? They don't WANT to build trucks to have them sit on lots.

But, like you are saying, I think - Tesla will have known orders for a certain location and lets say they had orders for 4 Cybertrucks at the East Bumphuk center... So, they'll fill up a truck with 5 and send it out the full load. Once there, Tesla will canvas people from the area who have reservations in. When the first person configures that particular configuration, Tesla issues a VIN and Bam! Bob's your uncle!

To that person, it'll feel like "I just configured, got a VIN, and got the truck delivered in the same day. Tesla must not have people wanting these things."

When the reality is the person just got lucky and was ready when the extra truck in the load showed up at his preferred place out in East Bumphuk.

That's what I think. I've got a background in logistics and Industrial Engineering but not with Tesla.

grain of salt.

I got emailed for my second cybertruck a few days ago. I am waiting until the non foundation series is available. I have also closely been following online auctions and ads and the FS isn't breaking 100k. I am hoping soon they will start giving us the option to get a Non FS.

Myself and my nephew (I'm in FL and he's in PA) got invitations in April. We both were going to wait it out for nonFS CT. Finally after 3 months of running numbers, considering the depreciation and maintaince and possible repairs of the vehicles we were trading /Selling to get the CT, and concerned that nonFS won't be here till late 2025 and possibly at a higher sticker we both put in FS configurations on 7/22/24. We both got texts the next day to schedule delivery for 7/26/24. At first thought it my be a hack or a scam. We each called the dealership in respective cities. We both got the same story "someone must have ordered and backed out at last minute or didn't qualify for financing. You can get your CT in 2 days. I counted 7 inside Sarasota Tesla dealership, my nephew said there was 15 at the Willow Grove PA dealership. How many were spoken for don't know. But was a huge but welcome coincidence we ordered same day and delivered in 3 days on the same days in 2 different Markets. Hard to believe they are just building to order. And if they are overproducing they may not be eager to start NONFS production till they get rid of the FS's built

Wonder how much this will affect the resale market and people trying flip them.

Well you definitely can’t sell them for over $100k bc a buyer would just get a new one. How they hold up medium term who knows. Depreciation is part of owning a car.

My FL brother texted me saying his local SC has dozens and dozens of Cybertrucks collecting dust in the yard. He claims that they have been sitting for weeks now.

Signs of buyers cancelling their FS orders?

Honestly all auto sales are doing pretty bad, some brands with 2-3 years of inventory even now it's approaching. I suspect that Tesla is soft too and kind of covering that up a bit. Likely tons of CTs available anytime from now on easily.

I’ve had a vin assigned for almost a week with no delivery date set. I talked to my local Tesla shop and it’s on the yard in Austin directly out of the factory. No unclaimed CTs waiting around here in Texas….

They had them sitting around for weeks back when I got mine which was April. Seems like they are just slow to get them ready for delivery.

But if they are making 1300 a week now then they should have some kind of inventory, I doubt they are selling 1300 Foundations every week.

Collecting dust? Yes!
Unspoken for?? Probably NOT!

CT takes A LOT of time to prep before delivery, so they can't do more than a handful of deliveries per day.
