Hmm, I can't imagine an ICE truck tail gate bending like that. Maybe Tesla Tough isn't as strong as Ford Tough? Maybe they should have skipped the stainless-steel body and put a little more strength into the tail gate.
my Ford F150 would disagree… we have only used it once to haul away cabinetry that we tore out of our garage and it has dents and scratches galore in the bed, as well as chips out of the plastic cover on top of the tailgate.

The tailgate has two positions. Partially open would probably have prevented this.
I sort of doubt it, that could put more weight on the tailgate by shifting the support point closer to the center of mass. Plus, it forces it to be a point load instead of allowing some amount of bed support.

Are you kidding me?

There is no such thing as “Ford Tough” in reality. Ads on TV do not define what happens in actual use. I know plenty of people disapponted with the bed performance of Ford pickups.

Come on man. Wake up.

Just my two cents.

I call shenanigans. Are you a Ford plant troll??

I'm sorry that happened, that sux! I would have ordered a new tailgate already as my OCD would be off the chain! At least worth a call / apt to see what the cost is.

Can you take a profile picture of the tailgate with it open, kinda curious if the panel delaminated from the structure.

Warning to everyone about hauling items. I was hauling a load of 12 foot composite decking boards today. I made sure that the weight limit was not exceeded, however, since the load shifted, it obviously put too much weight on the tailgate and now the tailgate is warped. Fortunately still shuts but it clearly bent the stainless steel and it now has a gap.

So caution about this possibility. Perhaps I should have known, but alas I was unaware of the potential.

is it warped in the mid-height so the top doesn't close all the way? I see the top not being closed all the way.

Here you go...
Yes it still functions properly. Just doesn't shut flush so hopefully it can be adjusted. Maybe I can live with it if it's simply a little bit warped.. will check on the cost for repair/ replacement.

I had an 2010 F-150 with the steel bed. Yes, I took care of it, but I over-loded it a few times with gravel and wine grapes.. You are right, I didn’t over-load the tailgate. I never worried much about breaking my F-150. I do worry about breaking my CT and that is prolly why I said what I said. You have to believe Elon did not make the perfect truck the first time. Ford has been improving their ICE truck for many years. I have to believe the F-150 is less prone to load damage than the CT. No fact, just my belief. MTC

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely be more cautious of loads on the tailgate now. Lookin at this pic, however, I am amazed at the amount of slack in the support cables. Looks like those got somehow stretched. Maybe the weak link was those.

That sucks but it's not that bad compared to before. The gap unevenness is probably the biggest issue.

Isn't there always slack in those?

This is an excellent point. We just looked at ours and one support cable is nice and tight when the tailgate is down and the other is loose.
Took a video and added it to our current support appointment next month.

Can you can give us an update on what they say at the service appointment?
