I just found the difference between MyQ & Homelink. MyQ works via use of the Internet and WIFI, and Homelink uses a device in the vehicle for a signal, to work.

I have the MyQ subscription for garage opener- works ok most of the time. Homelink worked way better on my former M3. It’s not the CT it’s absolutely the MyQ app and opener as the app on its own acts dopey and looses comms with the opener. Offline errors occur on the app and on the CT
Interesting, because with 2 HomeLink cars and one MyQ, MyQ works much more reliably.
I don't even have to visually check the door anymore, because the Icon in the vehicle lets me know that it is indeed closing and then closed.
And if Homelink doesn't close it, I don't have to backup into position with MyQ, I just hit the button.

On my model 3, MyQ always caused the garage door to beep when going down (safety thing, I know). I was excited when I got my CT that this beeping did not happen. Now, after several software updates, MyQ causes the garage door to beep about 80% of the time. Is there a way to prevent this? Why doesn't it beep 20% of the time?

Agreed. I've found MyQ to be better than homelink as well. Homelink will fail and not tell you, MyQ tells you if the door is still open and then you can just send the command again.

The problem with MyQ is that it loses my wifi about the distance it's closing the garage and doesn't always send, but again, I can see this and just re-send the command.

I believe that the "beeping" is caused when the door thinks that it is being closed remotely and is a safety warning. You can be 100 miles away and invoke it in the app and it is nice that the opener beeps and flashes the lights to let people know that it is closing.

The 20% may be that it realizes that you are still close enough and it's not considered "remote". Just a guess though.

I am a homelink guy too. I understand the benefits of MyQ, but for those of us who live on acreage, wifi does not reach the entire property. My attached garage is fine, but my exterior garage (the big garage where the CT will be) as well as my driveway entrance gate are way too far away for wifi coverage. Guess I'll use a good old clicker until something else comes along.

I assume you don't get cell service?

The trucks cell service doesn't help if the garage door doesn't have internet access.
Fair.

I have an external repeater for my wifi. I was thinking about the truck itself wifi access.

The problem is it’s a subscription and subscriptions are evil. I like to own my tech. The other problem is it’s cloud based and if the cloud is down I have to deal with that locally. All home equipment should work locally with no need of the cloud. It’s not a question of if it will fail, but when.

Lastly it’s also a bs subscription for something that could be bought once and just run locally. There are some reasonable subscriptions that do rely and require cloud services. This ain’t one. It’s just evil, and people using it are beaten housewives. I’d rather just put a remote on a visor. But to each their own.
