Pros and Cons of myQ IMHO:

1. CON - I like HomeLink as an option as it can open our gates to community and learn other devices that are not internet connected (or not through an app that may not have an API to myQ). Sucks, have to use an old clicker to get into hood. I could also learn my parents garage and gate etc which was nice. They should really have both.

2. PRO + CON - Do like that Homelink knows the status of the door if open/closed, perhaps great for actual summon eventually. BUT it has gotten stuck a couple times and dumb. Where car things its closed, but its open still and doesn't update after minutes so have to go out and use a keypad or remote since won't let you close it from truck or app.

3. CON - If you use Alarm.com like many people do, millions, then you can't have the myQ gateway for the garage door on that system and your Tesla. You have to remove it from your Alarm.com system which destroys a lot of that single app functionality, alarm intelligence, and automations like closing when you arm or get far away, etc. Sucks big time!

He said he had acreace and it was way to far away for wifi. Dedicated hotspot or Starlink can be cost prohibitive.
You can shoot miles with the right stuff, for pretty cheap.

And it also then becomes helpful because the vehicle can then get updates while parked.

I have a smart home and tried to make MyQ work in my case since I already had a MyQ garage opener but I still have a community gate and even though I'm the HOA tech guy I couldn't get the myq smart garage hub to work for the community gate which says its not supported. I just need a mobile clicker but not sure why it won't work.

It looks like that it's only supported on model 3 and model Y for some reason
Because on the S & X Homelink is built-in (included in your purchase). They definitely need to have the ability to do this in the Cybertruck. If you live in a gated community Homelink is not an option for that gate (or as OP has mentioned if you have a gate surrounding your own property same deal). There are still important uses for Homelink that are not addressed by MyQ I have and like. We installed homelink in our Y and 3 & as I noted above it comes standard on the S.

Another thing is If your Wi-Fi goes down for any reason at your house, you don’t have MyQ. Homelink is not affected by this. So, it’s not a very good look for them not to have the module available for installation on the Cybertruck given its price point.

I’ve seen nothing official from Tesla that the cybertruck can’t be equipped with the same module or similar module that goes into their literal cheapest cars, so hopefully it’ll be possible in the future.

It's easy to check, are the plug and mounting points there?

my guess is that the homelink module doesn’t support 48 volts. They will have one eventually, it‘ll be $300 upgrade for existing CT owners.
Homelink doesn't work through metal. That's why Tesla installed the module inside the bumper on the Model Y. Works great there though.

The problem is it’s a subscription and subscriptions are evil. I like to own my tech. The other problem is it’s cloud based and if the cloud is down I have to deal with that locally. All home equipment should work locally with no need of the cloud. It’s not a question of if it will fail, but when.

Lastly it’s also a bs subscription for something that could be bought once and just run locally. There are some reasonable subscriptions that do rely and require cloud services. This ain’t one. It’s just evil, and people using it are beaten housewives. I’d rather just put a remote on a visor. But to each their own.
Homelink = $350
MyQ garage opener = $27.53 on Amazon
Difference = $322.47
16 years of MyQ = $319.84

There... the difference between getting Homelink put on your current car vs. using MyQ for every car you ever buy for the next 16 years is $2.63.

The MyQ opener is free if you subscribe for at least a year with a Tesla.

Great if MyQ worked, but it doesn’t. So worthless at any price for me.

yeah. I suppose if you didn't have Wi-Fi at a garage or you had a garage door opener that wasn't compatible with any of the slew of MyQ capable openers out there, that would suck.

The point is that subscription models are the problem. How many services have just stopped working, or companies decide the hardware you currently have, just needs to be stopped being supported(Spotify CarThing). Also the subscription price will increase a little bit every year or two, and you have to continue to pay, don't want your hardware you invested in to stop working.
