Was it the local Tesla that told you that? I asked the technicians (three of them looked at my wheel covers today) if they had heard about a recall again and they said no. They also said that a lot of times people coming in hear about recalls before they do (which I thought was odd).
Yeah, it was at my local southern CA Tesla dealer at their showroom when I was picking of my CyberBeast a couple weeks ago.

Picked up my beast with AT + covers 8/24. They've stayed on so far, hopefully it was a fluke for you. Fingers crossed
The new Cyber AT wheel cover still extends well beyond the rim to go over the rubber tire. When you hit a pothole hard enough, the tire will bulge out far enough to pop the wheel cover off. It will happen by design.

The newly designed wheel covers were on my Beast delivered last week in Raleigh NC. The service center said they were the first they had seen. I noticed two were not seated properly all the way and had to bang them tight with my hand clenched. They have not fallen off so far. Will update here if they do. I will be putting them through some rough forest service road driving this coming week.
I have the AT tires.

If it’s by design then I can never drive with them on in Chicago. We got more potholes in the streets than atoms in the universe lol.

Seems they will have to redo them again before we get them, or give up. That or they'll make a lot of $$$ on the $75 replacements in the store ;-).

Honestly, I can see them giving up on current owners. At some point logistically, how are they going to mail out or install 20,000+ wheel covers x4 to everyone.
The same way they fill thousands of orders from the Tesla Shop. Send them all to an order fulfillment center.

OR

Send them to the service centers for people to pick up who live within 50 miles of one. If they are more than 50 miles ship directly to their door.

There’s no way Tesla purposefully designed something to come off the truck and create a road hazard.

Please report this issue to Tesla, unless you already have. They need to know that this issue still exists.

Obviously Tesla did not do it on purpose. It was poor engineering. The original problem was pretty obvious that the cover sticked out too far to rub against the tire. They pulled it back but it's still not enough. When you hit a pothole or go over something (curb, rocks, etc.) hard enough, the rubber will flex and bulge out far enough to pop the cover loose. It's unintentional but the current design asks for that to happen.

I am really thinking (and hoping) that was the case for mine - that they were not seated correctly. The service center said they don't check those before you pick up for delivery. The truck is however it came off when it was dropped off. So, perhaps I just did not do a good enough inspection at delivery. Everyone else should just really make sure they are all on properly.

Mine have not fallen off since I was at the service center earlier this week and I hit some similar road conditions.

Update: I've driven over 1,000 miles since the wheel covers came off and at this point, I think it was just an issue of them not being installed properly and I didn't check them when I picked up the truck. The lesson then is to probably take all the covers off and make sure you put them back on as the instructions describe. Kind of a pain, but so was chasing down two-wheel covers off the side of the road.
