What's your ideal second vehicle to the Cybertruck and why?

Waiting for an Aptera here. Whenever I don't need a truck, might as well optimize for driving.

Those guys are experts at leading on investors and burning cash. I will have a hard time shelling out the same money for a 2 seater as a model 2 or whatever 4 seater is available (smaller footprint with similar range). Those will be pretty darn environmentally friendly but maybe not as fun as the Aptera. IDK. I am so tempted to ask for my stupid $100 back.

For those who like to plan for societal breakdown or cataclysmic event, the best redundancy is being able to charge off your own rooftop solar. Because when your 500 miles of gasoline range is gone, it's gone.

The supply chain for gasoline is long and complicated and requires large amounts of electricity. Even if gasoline is available in limited quantities, there will be hyper-inflation. Meanwhile, the sun will keep rising every day. If it doesn't, you really have bigger problems to worry about.

And people with guns ready to take your shit.

We've had our Cybertruck for almost 4 months and it's been the go to vehicle for pretty much everything. We're ready to retire our other gas car (we rarely drive it) for a second EV, but we're not sure what.

I just want to hear what your ideal second vehicle is to the Cybertruck and why? Or maybe the CT is all you want/need?


Here's where I'm at:

Cybertruck 2: Return to Cybertron - We half-joked about getting a second Cybertruck because we love it so much, but it seems somewhat impractical since we both drive together most of the time. What are we gonna do, caravan in 2 Cybertrucks everywhere we go so we can both drive? Also, not sure if 2 will even fit in our garage.

Model 3 - I traded my 2022 LR in when we got the CT, and it was such an awesome vehicle. Would buy again. Probably Highland Performance. I eyeball these every time they drive by.

Aptera - If we really wanted to lean into the unusual looking vehicles. But I'm 6'5" and not sure I'd fit. Looks sweet in black, insane range, solar panels.

Ioniq 5 - We rented one and it was a lot of fun to drive, and I love the look.

Rivian R3 - So cool. I'm not sure what 80s nostalgia buttons in my brain they're pressing, but they pressed them.

Fiat 500e - Beep beep, fits anywhere, nice small compliment to the big CT, but small size is a concern.

Lotus Eletre - Bit of a splurge, but LOVE the look, so it's on the list.

I still have my 2014 Subaru forester. Its got 208k miles on it, its paid off, and my dogs have already decimated its interior. This is why it is the ideal second vehicle.

We are getting a Hummer EV SUV to accompany the Cybertruck.

This is an interesting combination. There's a few Hummer EVs next to the Tesla service center here so I've checked them out. While I think it's a bit too beefy for me, it looks good. I get Hummer EV ads like 10 times a day, so they must somehow know I've taking a peek or their target audience is people who search "Cybertruck" 100 times a day.

Keeping the Ram 2500 as my second. Much as I love the CT, it doesn't have the range I want when pulling a decent trailer, and the idea of dropping the trailer every hundred miles to go supercharge is a nonstarter.

Haha yeah we test drove it and love it! Wife is really excited that the roof panels come off and she gets to have her convertible.

The Aptera is still vaporware. I have several reservations and the company does not have enough runway for scaled production.

Having multiple physical copies in existence kinda means it's not vaporware.

It isn't in production, so if you need something this year, it isn't it. But my Cybertruck is also not yet available for sale.

I hope so but aren't they raising another $60 million. To build the first 2000? HMMM. 60 plus 20 from state plus 20 from accelerator plus 10 from before. Is 90 million. That is $45000 for the first 2000 units and those guys still need to pay $30000 I think.

They are, but they've also gotten all the ducks in a row now - all the tax and investment grants from the state hinge upon their ability to make the cars.

They have 48,000 pre-orders, representing possible income 10x more than their investment target total. Aptera has only been operating for 5 years; Tesla didn't see a profit for six years, and wasn't totally profitable for twenty, so give 'em a brake.

I have a reservation so I wanted them to succeed. I think they should qualify for a tax credit too. But I bet many of the 48000 reservations are meaningless with a $30000 Tesla that seats 4 with 350 mile range. It is also huge for a 2 seater.

When batteries get to 400 watts per kg at $100 per kwhr, efficiency no longer matters. Game over Aptera and game over ICE.
