Hello fellow CyberTruckers,

I took possession of my CyberTruck a few days ago. When at low speeds, the steering has a rubbing/grinding sound. Do other people hear that on their trucks too?

Thanks,
Kim

It's probably the sound of the tires. Without audio, I don't know if anyone can say if what you hear is normal or not.

You can hear the tires a joints moving when you turn and your not moving correct? I hear it all the time, just figured it was normal with such a massive wheel/suspension system down there. I’d love to hear other’s thoughts and how common this is . … if mine is not the normal maybe it needs a better lubricant job.

Mine was making a noise when I was turning slow. The dealer found trim on the steering column rubbing it fixed the problem.

I hear it too. Curious to see the conclusion of what this is all about

It's a large truck with giant tires, it will make more noise and send more feedback than most vehicles, especially if someone is accustom to other Tesla models or other smaller vehicles.

You also have the rear wheel steering going on, so that is essentially 100% more steering/tire noise and feedback than normal vehicles. Steer by wire may add to this as people tend to oversteer at first, especially at low speeds.

If no noise at higher speed, than I'd say it's normal. Rear wheel steering angle is reduced at higher speeds, which also may play a part here.

My steering wheel sounds like someone is rubbing styrofoam together endlessly. If I push forward the right side of the steering wheel, it goes away when under force. But you can not drive like that. Taking it in to have it looked at. It is quite embarrassing with other people in the car.
outside of that, truck has been great,.

Turning at slow speed sharply can cause this rapid thumping, sounds like a buckling sound along with vibrations in the steering. It stops after half a second and otherwise I don't notice problems. Has anyone seen an explanation?

Well… the idea of steer by wire is that the feedback is supposed to be less than that of a traditional vehicle. There is no direct mechanical link between the steering and the control. There should be no mechanical feedback from the steering, just force feedback

Yes I understand. I'm describing what is happening, it's a rapid rumble like a buckling sound that I can feel but that doesn't mean it's from the steering system.

The two pieces of the telescoping steering column shroud can rub making noise. I folder over a piece of cardstock and pushed it in the overlap (with part hanging out to avoid losing it)

Yes - I made an appt, tesla cancelled it but said they preemptively ordered a new shroud column. Suspect they know its an issue and are just replacing it.

i had this same issue. took it to service they were able to recreate it but after checking the suspension said there was nothing to do.

doesnt make much sense to me for that sound to be normal.
